How much boost should I be building?

I usually build about 21lbs to the floor on the highway about 10lbs driving around town.

I see these numbers with no loads. That about right?

Thanks. Just didn't want to have a turbo problem.

So if i took the egr delete out and put in a bullet proof egr cooler it should go up?

yup and a cat.
the truck runs pretty normal other wise i assume, right?
like I said mise does the same and I have gone so far as to try a different turbo and vgt still the same and no issue with mine and it started the day I installed the delet.
So I see it like this more air flow less boost needed and same power made.

Thanks. I was thinking a new turbo, but eventually when my turbo really goes I'll look into a powermax. But yes truck runs well no issues thanks to you guys.

Well I am very concerned now that i may have an issue. I have a Stock 2005 F350 and the most boost I ever see is 20-21psi on the stock gauge. (Ordered scangauge this week). Are you saying I may have a Turbo issue?

I just bought the truck in December, and i do not notice any loss of power. I continues to put a smile on my face. I did have the new flash installed to minimize the potential issues with the FICM and the Heat induction since i live in Michigan, and it has been cold here. i still have the EGR so what I am reading is that I am under-boosting.

Should I go get a Turbo cleaning kit? Is there anything else I need to look at? I Love my truck and i want to stay on top of all the maintenance I can before issues become problems.

Thanks

Bill

How many miles are on your truck?

When I first bought mine stock exhaust stock egr cooler I only saw 21/22 to the floor.

I cleaned my turbo just to be safe and at 198k it wasn't bad at all in my opinion.

You can also check all hoses that lead to the turbo. Etc

118000 miles
Looks like I will get a Turbo cleaning kit. I will look for the part number but if any one has it handy that would be great.

Is there anything else I should look at- fix- replace- update while I am in there?

I appreciate the help and the knowledge from everyone here. As soon as I get to a real computer I do not have to use my thumbs on I will Rep you both.

Thanks,
Bill

Glad to hear that it's typical to see those lowered boost numbers after the EGR delete. I have seen the same type of numbers after mine was deleted. Sure seems to have all the power that it did before the delete, even with less boost.

I wish I had that issue. My EGR cooler is deleted and I can see 35 towing a big hill with a load. 26 max with no load. I wonder if it will go down if I get rid of the cat. I might pull the turbo to see if the vanes are not opening all the way....maybe the vgt valve is bad.

I have gotten up to 23 ("working it damn hard") with mine since I had a few parts left over when I replaced the oil cooler. Seems to have the same power as before. Prior to the surgery I got to 28+.

Bill, IMHO I would get some readings on yur eot and ect to see if you need to replace the oil cooler while you are a third of the way there.

Turbo Cleaning

OK so i think I have all of the part numbers for a cleaning and to upgrade the oil feed and return lines.

Turbo Reconditioning kit- 4c4z-9v424-aa ($56.42 / Tousley Ford)
Turbo Hardware Kit- 3c3z-9t514-ad ($7.44 / Tousley Ford)
Turbo oil drain Line- 6c3z-9t515-a ($20.90 / Tousley Ford)
Turbo Oil feed Line- 3c3z-9t516-a ($76.96 / Tousley Ford)

am i missing any other parts or numbers i should be looking for?

Stridor- I will be getting my Scangauge this week so i will get it hooked up and start reading the EOT and EGT temps and see if there is a spread. i have the new Flash so i would expect that if I had a big problem the CEL would have come on. But i hear you, it seems that If I am there i might as well go all the way.

Are there any further tests i can do to verify that the vanes are sticking? I have read through the Tech folder and it seems that the sticky vanes are usually related to a loss of power. i am not experiencing that. It seems to me that it has lots of power. it does take a sec when you stand on it for the turbo to kick in but it is no more delay than any other vehicle i had when you romped on the pedal. I am still going to pull the turbo in the next couple of weeks (when I can find a day to play with my toy), but i wonder if I will see any changes.

thanks for the help,
Bill

My 2005 F-350 DRW CC runs max about 21 on the stock gauge without a load.

Towing my trailer I can almost see 30 going up a couple big hills getting in and out of Las Vegas

Everything on mine is stock
