New Lightning owner here

I recently purchased a new (to me) truck. It is a 1999 F-150 Lightning with a 2004 drive train. So far I love this truck! Of course was just wondering what basic power upgrades most of you guys do. Not wanting to get crazy...just some basic performance boosters. Thanks!

That has got to be the first factory ext. cab Gen 2 I have ever seen. Try running your VIN number through this decoder; VIN Number Decoder offer to you by Ford Trucks Enthusiasts | www.ford-trucks.com

Technically it is not a "factory" lightning....but it was retro fitted by Ford, from what I understand. Previous owner spent a lot of bank having this truck converted! The motor, tranny, and rear end were installed new in 2004 and have only 21,000 miles on them. It is a sweet ride.....I have always wanted a lightning but just cannot bear to drive a regular cab truck, had too many extended cabs in the past. So aside from an after market air filter, are there any other basic upgrades...chip, throttle body, etc. that are considered standard upgrades?

Well I'm in the same boat as you. I have a F-150 supercrew with a L drivetrain in it. But I would never call my truck a Lightning!!! People will laph at you if they are familiar with Lightnings at all.

It is a nice truck! And there are tons of upgrades you can do.
I would start with a 4# or 6# lower pulley and a custom tune. That will give you a nice jump in power.

Phil has it right. I knew it wasn't a Lightning right away so yeah....It's NOT a Lightning but good work.

Try Accufab throttle body, a tuner (Diablo), Cold air intake, Cat back exhaust and maybe a pulley swap too.

I would remove the Lightning badges and look at a 4# lower, custom tune, vb, and an intake.

Nice truck, even if it's not a factory Lighting. Enjoy

I saw that truck on ebay, and you need to figure out what's been done already before you go adding mods to it...

Lightning...To be, or not to be? That's the question.

Yeah man, try and get as much info on anything that may have been done performance wise . This is very important when trying to tune and dial in the proper, and best suited, and most optimal setup.

If you don't you will get lost in the first thing that goes wrong and second, third guess everything and that's HELL man.

Getting the tailgate wing painted up today. Gonna look bad *** I am sure. I got ye O'l Lightning down the 1/4 mile running 12.8 at the close of last season. Best time yet on street tires (NITTO555).

Cheers
