The mind power of a dent side
I have had a lot of trucks and cars that slipped away. Some got gone with the blessing of marriage and kids. I had a 71 mach w/ 351c sold to buy a suv for the wife. I now look at a 04 navigator in its place . I have had Broncos, Saleen mustangs, lightnings, cobras and a lot of ford trucks. I recently this last fall got my first dent side. It is in a slow process of getting restored by me. Its the first project I have done totally by myself. I am constantly finding things to sell to get more and more money for the project. Its like some addiction to finish it. When the truck is done its going to be one of the greatest days( besides when the kids were born) of my life. I spend every weekend night on the truck. The kids go to bed at 10:00pm then I slip out to my shop and work until 3:30am. When I'm done I will have a truck that will never ever slip away and all of this with no time slipped away from my kids. There is no better pride than driving and owning a dent side. Mine is a 73 f250 4x4 highboy. I would love to hear your stories about the restoration or the ones that got away.

I've had 4 dents since I was 16. I'm 18 now. My biggest regret was letting my 1978 f250 4x4 slip away. I had just sold my best friend my 79 f150 so I could get a 4x4 again. Now this f250 was nice. I had a nice flatbed on it. I had por 15 the chassis. I built the 460 that was in her. Nice set of 33 TSL thornbirds. You hit the throttle and she flat out got it. Well it had full time 4 wheel drive since it was a NP203 case. Then transfer case went bad and I had to park her till I could afford a new 203 or enough for a 205 swap. So at the time I was driving my moms Jimmy around everyday. Then I had got in an accident and totaled her truck. I sold the truck to pay them back for the deductible and the brand new tires on the truck. I didn't have to sell it and pay them back. But it was my fault that her truck was totaled. you were talking about not wanting to lose time with the kids why not have them help you? when I was younger my family used to drag race. When ever my dad would let me help him with his race car it was the biggest joy I ever had.

My girls are 2 and 4 right now. They want to ride their power wheels right now. I can't wait man until they get a couple of more years under their belt so they can help. I also dragged race with my dad but it was always a competition who was the better driver lol. That was another car that slipped away. It was a 87 notch back 351c with 200 shot of nitrous

Wow that stang sounds nice what did it run? Dad was racing a 64 Chevelle SS chevy 350 all motor and sat on the bumper. I ran junior dragsters. Acutally when the strip opens next month I'm taking my dent to the track

When I was 16, I had my driver's license for about 2 months before I totaled my dad's mint '73 F100 shortbox Trailer Special with a 360/C6. I was racing my buddy home from school –*he in his freshly Earl Scheib-ed gold '78 Camaro and me in the truck. I was winning by a carlength before I lost control at about 100mph into a curve on a back country road and flipped the thing end-over-end twice, landing shiny-side up.
Dad bought a '75 F100 longbed with the same drivetrain to replace that Trailer Special, but I've never seen another one like that since I wrecked it.
I had a few Dodge pickups in my 20s and early 30s, but I finally got a '73 F250 with a built 460 and shift kitted C6 from a good friend of mine who's also a pro hot rod builder. That thing romped and had great sheetmetal, but the interior was smoked and the motor ended up with water in several cylinders, so I parted that one out and got my hands on a cherry, original '74 F350 Super Camper Special!
I love this "new" pickup and hope to keep it the rest of my days. My favorite truck is a '73-'75 F-Series (I like the grilles with the round headlight bezels the most) and I'd love to find an era-correct '73-'75 ramp truck so I could get rid of my tandem-axle trailer!

Yeah, I had the lap belt on and, looking back, I know that's what saved my life! I remember seeing ground, trees, sky, ground, trees, sky and then I kinda blacked out. Worn a seatbelt ever since that day, without fail. People don't really know what a truck like that is capable of till end up in a situation like that. I'm just lucky that it happened early in my driving career and that I walked away from it!
And I'm pretty sure that's what started my love affair with Dents. Well, that and alot of great memories with my Dad in his Dents. Sometimes, just the distinctive sound the door makes when I shut it can take me back to summer days with my dad on the farm. And now that I'm 40, all that stuff means more than it ever did, y'know?
Since I'm a hotrodder at heart, I can't just leave this SCS alone – I plan to do some mild customizing: headers and duals, maybe some wheels and definitely paint. This one's gonna be a Seventies outlaw-country type of custom, complete with era-correct CB accessories and an 8-track!

Got to love the 8-track! I put the original one back in my Mach 1. I took it to Mecum auto auctions. The car went on stage during the live airing on tv. The broadcast guy made fun of me for putting the 8-track back in it. I was embarrassed in front of thousands. I still have all of my 8-tracks though.
