1960 F600 repower updates

Hello again guys,

I am updating some pics of my progress of swapping in a 7.3 IDI and ZF5 into my 1960 F600 that originally had a 292 yblock. Ive got the motor and tranny installed, hydro boost installed, and the front clip put back on. It runs great. I took it for a drive in our pasture and I was greatly impressed. This motor really brings this truck back to life and then some. I got to a long stretch, got it into 2nd gear and gave her a solid nudge on the gas pedal. It pulled me squarely back into my seat with authority. I bet the truck itself was thinking "Good God man.... this motor means business" Its no powerstroke, but its no slouch either. The motor was whispering to me " Load this b!@ch up and lets get it on down the road Jack!" LOL Fun Times!!! Im quite happy with it.

Nice work!! I'm a fan of the old IDI's and old Ford trucks. It's a perfect match!

The 7.3L comes out around 444 cubes.

THat look good enough to be factory. now I do think you should get your self a better air filter. A 1/4 inch thick piece of foam it not all the great of a filter for a diesel.

Do you have a fan (for the radiator) on it?

Looks like he has a pusher fan for it in the front of the radiator.

Yes there is a pusher fan in the front. I bought a relay kit and a 16" fan for the fan setup. Ive got a good bit of work ahead of me yet. Running the rest of the exhaust, Convert to electric speedometer, and several other things. Its going well overall. People are going to give me strange looks when i pull in to fill up with fuel and its making all of that diesel clatter when they expect to hear an old gasser coming from and oldie truck like this one.
I have enjoyed doing the swap so far, being an ex Army diesel mechanic, ive got diesel in my bloodstream. I love diesels, always will.

Nice job.

I recommend you get an adequate air filter, though, or you'l dust the power cylinder pretty quick. Those foam aftermarket cleaners are rock strainers at best.

A Diesel, even an NA one, uses lots of air compared to a gasser. The first 6.9Engineering Prototypes were run with 351 gas engine air cleaners and they were of totally inadequate capacity. They would plug up over the weekend on a dyno engine, and that's with air coming from inside the Dyno lab.

The foam cleaner you have has almost no filtering capability, so it may not plug, but it doesn't take much fine dirt to dust a diesel.
