'92 F-150 Windshield: Go used or aftermarket?
After about 19 years, my perfect windshield has developed a crack on my '92 F-150. The rock chipped it all the way to the far right edge and I missed it or else I would have had it injected to keep it from cracking. The crack is making itself across the windshield with all this cold weather so I want to replace it. I've found advertised locally a supposidly new aftermarket windshield for $80.00. He claims "it fits '90 thru '96 and '80-'89 but the vin location will be off". My questions are:
1. Is this true? Do the '87-'91 series share the same windshield as the '92-'96 F-150?
2. Is $80.00 a good price for a new aftermarket windshield?
3. Are the new aftermarket windshields thinner than the OEM and thusly the trim won't sit flush with the glass on the outside? To be honest, over the years, my windshield has taken some pretty good hits and never cracked until recently. If the aftermarket glass is thin (chip prone and trim has a gap) then I just might look for a nice OEM from a junkyard.
4. Pretty easy job to replace the windshield?
Thanks.
