Question trans interchange

Hi and thanks in advance,
I have a 99v10 4x4 auto and the tranny took a s**t the other day.(2 weeks after my new son was born, so money's a little tight-haha) From reading it looks like this is a 4r100. After looking at rebuilt and used tranny's, I'm wondering what years and models interchange?

Would a 96 e4od and transfer case from a 5.4 mod motor bolt in?

I've got an electronic tranfercase right now but have wanted a manual one anyway, so if this will bolt in I'd love it. Are there any physical differences between the electrically actuated and manual trans cases? do they use the same driveshaft flanges?

I know the 5speeds from the newer ones require computer work and all so thats out for this job.

What year transmissions will bolt in. I've searched and most of the things that come up are issues with the trans and how to install newer ones, not just a straight interchange thread.

Any info would be great! $500 bucks from somebody down the road sure beats certified transmissions $2000. I'm installing it myself anyway.

Thanks
Brian

I don't know what it is you're looking at. There is no such thing as a '96 mod motor. The first year for the 5.4L modular was '97, and that was only in the vans. None of them were 4x4. The pickups first got the 5.4L modular in 1999.

A transmission from a 5.4L will bolt to a V10 engine. There are some internal differences that might not live a long life behind a V10.

I'm thinking of going with a junk yard trans and taking a shot at rebuilding mine. I would still be way ahead $$$ wise.

The setup I saw on graigslist was a 9X something f250 5.4 trans and t-case for $500-thats why I was asking.

My guess is that the listing you saw is for a "light duty" f250 trans and transfer case. They were basically beefed up f150s. I don't know if they still used the e4od or if they had the 4r100 like the super dutys.

The F-series got the 5.4l earlier than 99'. My neighbor has a 97' F-250 LD 4X4 with the 5.4l. Not sure what auto trans it has in it though, I'd guess either the 4R100 or the 4speed auto from the 97' 150. The F-250LD was basically an F-150 with a higher 7700 GVWR, 7 lug wheels with a slightly heavier rear axle and susp.

The F150 did get the 5.4L in 1997. I was referring to the F250 and up, not the light duty trucks.
