Part numbers

Ant one know where I can look up part numbers accurately? Got a 55 f00 I'm building and got a deal on a 429' c6 and 9 inch but the machine shop lost my heads and said he gave me better ones. Wanna run the part numbers to check.

casting numbers are not part numbers but try this for 460, should be a 429 forum somewhere!

As noted, casting numbers are not part numbers. But if you post what you have, we may be able to tell you more about them.

Better is a very subjective term. One persons better might be for high rpm drag racing, and not necessarily what's desirable for a low-end torque truck engine.

Do you know what is was you gave your machinist?

SCAM

How do you lose a set of heads? When i took my heads off my 65 289 i stamped them to make sure i got the same ones back. Sounds like a scam to me. I would be pissed. You should make them buy you a new set. I was told some of these guys just wait for items like this to come in so they can keep them for there self or sell them for BIG BUCKS. Like i said how do you lose something that big.

Yup, that sounds fishy to me too. I'll bet the heads you had were the desirable ones so they 'conveniently' lost them and are replacing them with 'whatever'.....I would be extremely Pi_ _ed Off! This is an old trick. Same thing happened to me many years ago. This guy said my cyl heads were junk and couldn't be fixed. Only thing is when that machine shop went out of business and another guy bought the business out, the new guy said he had a set of heads that I might like for my motor, all nicely reconditioned and every thing. They were stored up stairs with a bunch of other stuff. Guess what! they were the same heads I brought in years before. They were the proper heads for my engine.

Post the head casting numbers, I might be able to tell you what they are from.

Casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

Some 429's used the same heads as 460's.

What is the block casting number prefix? C8VE, C9VE, DOVE, D1VE, D9TE?

I'll post up the numbers I do have. Oddly enough it gets even fishier. The shop closed down over night one day they were there the next they were not. I tracked the guy down through a friend of a friend and went to his house and that's when he gave me the other heads and has moved shortly after

That's what the shop owner claims...do you actually believe this wild mule p!ss?

So, then you went to his home, and he just happened to have other heads layin' around?

Something smells, and it ain't hay!

No I don't believe him. I just check and the heads given to me are just the d3ve-a2a nothing special lol I was reading about them on another post on here. Kind of pisses me off not knowing what he lost/took.... On a side note I tried a apple cider vinegar dip ona test spot on the head and let it sit over night and wow with a light brush that part looks better than new!

Do you know anything about your engine? What year it is? What it came out of? That might give us a clue about your missing heads.

Haha I'm sorry I sound so much like a noon I swear I'm not just been out of it for awhile. Got the motor and everything anoint 10 years ago. It's a 1972 429. The heads I was given I had checked and they are the d3ve-a2a they are 72cc closed chambered head with the smaller valves. What it is out of I have no clue I bought it off of a friend it was sitting in a amature race care frame I got the motor which I was told was a 460 a c6 and a 9 inch all for the price of taco bell and 200 bucks

1972 engine: The block casting number will be D1VE-6059-AB. The same block was also used for the 460, the only difference is the stroke.

D3VE's are smog heads, first used in 1973: Passenger Car 429/460 & F100/350 460.
