Coolant Leak Pt.2

Hey Guys.

Well i had coolant leaking from my truck about 2 weeks ago and found out the water pump was bad. So i replaced the water pump,t-stat, and t-stat housing. Did this about a week ago and everything has been fine.

Now i started my truck up yesterday morning and it was leaking coolant like crazy. I got under the truck and couldn't see where it was leaking from. Its not leaking from the water pump or the radiator, its dripping off the starter.

Could this be a freeze plug?

This is my work truck, local shop is jammed until thursday so for now im stuck... Thanks for any help.

-Matt

There is a block drain plug right above the starter. It is a standard pipe thread fitting.

Is this block drain plug the only thing it could be?

Its about 10 degrees outside, so i just want to waste as little time as possible looking for the leak.

Thanks guys

Within the last few days ive noticed it has been starting real hard ever since this coolant leak started as well. Im hoping this doesn't mean a head gasket.

On the back of the head, there is a freeze plug installed. (Hopefully)

You have to remove the motor to replace that freeze plug correct?

There is room, but provably not fun. The freeze plug is in the head there, so just a head removal.

Okay. Now would this have something to do with the hard starts in the morning?

Probably not! Hard Starts are usually caused by the Glow Plug System, batteries, starter, or oil issues.

Take a look at the cold start thread for more info: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ky-thread.html

Okay, im going to check that as well. Thanks for the help!

So that block plug goes bad? It was pouring out like a garden hose was under the truck. Probably lost half a gallon within 30 seconds of running...

They are just steel plugs, so if it corroded, they can be bad, or it may have just backed out, although pipe threads don't usually do that, but you do have vibrations there.

Okay, that makes sense. Yesterday i started it up and it dripped about an ounce or 2 on the ground then mostly went away after warmed up. I did notice a couple drips here and there, but like i said previously, today i shut it right off due to how it was just pouring out...

It will pump out as fast as the hole will allow it to move, The water pump is providing the flow!
