2013 F250 6.2 start up noise

Well sold my 2004 V10 and got a new 6.2,4.30 cc,sb. It just turned 1000 miles today. My problem or question is what is everybody doing about the start up "tick" or noise? It has done it from day one. Never in the morning or after it sits a few hours. Its only after it sits a half hour to hour or so. Sounds like lifter rattle for about 2 seconds. Some times a little longer and a little deeper sound.Im guessing about 30% of the time it makes noise. Of course, never when I stopped by the dealer does it make a sound!

Not uncommon, talked about several times, not just this engine does that. Use a Motorcraft oil filter, it is a good filter with a good anti-drain back valve and that will help. A new oil filter may help.

Overall, the answer is the oil has to pressurize the hydraulic lifters and until that happens you can have some racket.

No worries.

I was told it is the cam phasers when I asked about the noise at my dealership.

I had the same thing, after sitting all night it started up with the lifter noise. I brought to the dealer. I've had the truck for 2 and half weeks. I was told this is normal. Mine's a leftover 2012 with 1025 miles. I picked it up with 43 miles. I have a F250 4x4 crewcab with the FX4 package.3.73 gears.

I have a 2011 and its done that since day one. Never does it when cold, only when hot. I also notice that it does it more often in warm weather. Like you it never does it for the dealer. I run motorcraft filters and oil since new.

My noise is intermittent. I've noticed it overnight and when it's been sitting for awhile. At least I have a extra warranty when the lifters die at 60k. DOH!

VForce : I'm having the same situation on my 2013 F250 6.2 - purchased one month ago today - I now have 1350 miles on it. The lifter noise occurs on sporadic start ups - just as you said, about 30% of the time.

I was wondering if the noise goes away after some additional mileage; are you still hearing it on your 6.2?

Thanx.

I have noticed the loud lifter sound on my 13 f250 6.2 since 15 miles when i picked it up.
It's not everyday just once in a while.
Now @ 1500 miles its no worse or better.
I'm not worried about it.

Thanks for the feedback ...

Yeah, most of the time, the engine starts up and goes into operation without a tick - 'sounds great. When it does start with a lifter rattle, it doesn't last long - maybe 2-3 seconds and then runs fine. I guess I'm just worrying over a new baby ...

Well Im now at 3500 miles and its still making the noise at start up. I have noticed that if it sits 45 mins to an hour or so it makes it. If it sits for a couple it doesnt. I did have it sit for 4 days and it rattled pretty good but as far as I can remember that was a first. Had it at the dealer for a window moulding replacement and of course it didnt make a sound! My only other complaint is that weird shifting 6 speed!

Yes - the 6 speed trans really shifts a lot; if I'm just driving around town, I'll click the select-shift button down to eliminate 6th gear and make the trans manage with the 1st five.

I haven't tried the 'Tow/Haul' mode yet - the manual says tow/haul "delays upshifts to reduce frequency of transmission shifting".

I still owe you a call, I apologize for that.

The 5 star tuner will not shift into 4-6 until you get to a specific speed, it's nice.

BTW - My truck is almost 3 years old and still randomly clacks at startup for a couple seconds. I don't worry about it.
