Question 97 explorer door lock problem

first time user hope i do this right.

about 1 mo. ago the electric door lock switch on the drivers door quit working you could lock all doors with this switch but you couldnt unlock anything. last nite the passenger door started doing the same thing. the doors lock just fine with either switch but cannot be unlocked. you can however lock and unlock all doors with the switch at the back of the vehicle by the hatchback and with the remote or the electronic keypad on the outside drivers door. the actuators seem to be working fine in all doors based upon use of the remote or rear switch. i did go to ford and purchase the drivers side lock switch and installed and still the same problem is happening. ( so i bought a 35.00 switch for nothing). hope that someone out there can help me.

thanks don

97 explorer door lock problem

Hi jakescars and welcome to FTE

I fixed one with the exact same problem a couple weeks ago. Inside the big connector piece in between the door and the body there was a broken wire. I think the wires you're looking for are pink with orange stripe and pink with black stripe. I had to remove the kick panel from inside, by the park brake pedal and then undo the big connector in between the body and door. There is a 10mm heat screw that holds the connector together. Then you have to fight a bit to get it peeled back enough to get at and fix the wire.
I hope this helps.
Let us know what you find
