38 gallon gas tanks

hey guys...
I see that they make 38 gallon rear mount gas tanks for the f100 trucks.
I THINK they originally came in 73 big block trucks. I see them on ebay and was wondering if anyone here knows how long the spacers need to be
to mount these to our trucks. they are only like 150.00 on ebay and the venders want like 399 for them but they come with longer bolts, spacers and the adaptor to lengthen the pick up tube.
anybody done this conversion??
thanks ! Steve sarasota florida

Easy as pie to do..unless the tank your taking out is full of gas. I got mine many moons ago out of a catalog. It came with longer tank straps and filler hose, and gauge float.

Nothing really to add except ouch at the pump to fill that baby up, but you won't have to stop as often.

Welcome to FTE. An on the 38gallon tanks is the frame the same width for the F100 & F250? I am looking at adding a 38gallon to my 74 F250 2wd.

I just ordered a new 38 gal tank from LMC Truck. The whole kit was only 200 dollars. It came with the longer sending unit. They have the longer sending unit for 60 dollars...or I guess that you could just braze or weld an extension on your existing unit.

Super camper specials and highboys have about 34" in frame. The rest have almost 38". So as long as it's not a SCS you should be good to go.

I have a 75 super camper special and I need a new rear tank. How sure are you that the rear space for a tank is 34". I have a poly tank now and it leaks.

Well I didn't know about the SCS being the same as the highboys until the other day when ChaseTruck pointed it out. I guess the easiest way would be to just measure the frame rails and see what ya get. :-thumb
