Question Length of steering column for 51' F-1

I just purchased a 51 F-1. It has a 302 with a C4At. I am planning on putting a mustang ii front end on it and am trying to figure out what length steering column I should use and if anyone had any suggestions.

Also should I go with the normal spindles or the drop 2" ones. I want the truck to look like a hot rod but not a low rider.

Thanks Troy

I just bought an Ididit column for my F1 project. The tech rep at Ididit recommended a 30" column with a 2.5" drop mount at the dash. I haven't done the full installation yet, but I did a quick trial fit. It looks like their advice was just right.

On the spindle drop, keep in mind that you'll probably get a little drop out of the IFS in the first place....but the rake that you set up is a matter of how you want it to look.

drop

I wouldn't go with the drop MII. I got a MII IFS from TCI and if i had used e drop spindals it would be draging the ground. If ya use a MII that alone will drop your truck 4''. As for the column i used a 32'' that is the lenght flaming river said to use.

I'f you still have the stock column classic performance parts has a kit to convert it so you can use it with the MII front end.
I went with the regular spindles myself for the same reasons these guys said. Plus I'm like you, I don't wan't to worry all the time about scrapping the ground cause its so low.

I just had my seat installed and if i was a big guy i would be screwed. i'm 5' 8'' 170lb. and like most guys my age [47] i don't have a six pack anymore. LOL One good thing is ain't no fat man going to steal my truck. lol steering wheel adaptors on alot of the nice wheels that folks sale will add about 3'' mine did anyway.

Anyone have any experience with the column that CCP and Speedway that goes for about $289? They seem like a heck of a good deal. It comes chrome with tilt and turn signal lever. I'm shoppint for a column for my F1 and was just wondering if anyone has purchased one of these and if they are any good or is it a cheap China special??

I bought the Ididit and all of the associated parts (shafts, Flaming River U-joints, heim bearing) from CPP. They were an excellent supplier. I asked about their brand, & the tech rep steered me toward the Ididit for quality reasons.

By the way...Ididit parts are made in America. I, for one, am willing to spend a little extra for American made parts whenever I can.

Also consider the early 90's jeep cherokee column. It's a GM tilt, stalk mounted wipers, dimmer and cruise, and 30" long. Available with and without column mounted shifter. The info was in a tech article on this board.
