Fuel Filter Light then shut down

Hi
Just got this Powerstroke together and has been running great. I have a fuel issue that has been leaving me stranded, particularily on cold mornings. First, I had a major fuel leak so I replaced the mech fuel pump and all the blue and black fuel lines. I still have a much smaller leak but the vally is still filled with fuel. I have a suspicion its from the fpr. Almost ever since, the water in fuel light is always on. This is the issue: On mostly cold mornings, I will be driving after a good warm up and the fuel filter light will flicker and then come on. Shortly after I would hear a fluid type of sound and the truck becomes weaker until it stalls and shuts down. It wont start after but parking it for a few hours, it would start like it never happened. Suggestians??

After it stalls have you ever taken the top off of the fuel filter to ascertain if there is fuel there? Is sounds like there is a blockage developing as you drive. Algae, ice,? Also check the level of fuel in the HPOP.

Rog, I think you mean 'oil' in the HPOP

Otherwise, Rog has got you on the right track

I was with him when it happened the first time and the fuel bowl did have the correct amount of fuel in it. He did just replace the the fuel pump and some of the rubber hoses if that helps

Replaced fuel filter? Drained fuel bowl (possible water in fuel)? Cleaned FPR screen? (mine had a stalling issue and the FPR screen was pretty good and plugged up)

Water or fuel dripping on the sensor will set the light on.

Replaced filter, bowl was full. Screen is cleaned, what sensor would set off the light (where is it)?

the 'fuel filter restriction sensor' look here, first post first picture, located on the side of the driver side fuel bowl.

Ford E8TZ-9S283-A
International 1809435c1

Much cheaper at IH

The senor will control the light coming on, BUT if your truck is dying, I would tend to think you have other issues than a bad sensor

Thats a great pic. The leak is coming from above that, I think. And its the rear tank.

If it's happening with the rear tank only (meaning this happens with only one tank and not both tanks), it's possible there's some particulate flopping around in the fuel that's getting sucked up against and blocking the fuel pickup line.

You might want to run that tank as empty as you can get it, drop it and clean it out to see if anything is in there.

Another thought ocurred to me. If the leak is coming from above the fuel restriction sensor area, it might be the o-ring between the FPR and the fuel bowl is pinched or torn. Have you replaced that o-ring? If fuel is leaking from there, you may not be able to obtain the proper fuel pressure required. That might be why the engine is shutting off and the fuel bowl is full.
