Without knowing the drive ratios in the Allison I don't think your point is relevant. Torque curves also have a lot to do with how final drive ratio affects performance.

GM/Allison I = 3.10; II = 1.81; III = 1.41; IV = 1.00; V = 0.71; VI = 0.61

Ford/TS I = 3.97; II = 2.32; III = 1.52; IV = 1.15; V = 0.86; VI = 0.67

I have no idea what gear they were trying to keep it in, Ford would have clearly done better with 373s

Great info....I didn't even try to search for it (lazy I guess)

So this begs the question does anyone know how these gear ratios and final ratios work as far as keeping the trucks in their power curves? I wonder how fair or unfair this test really was? Not trying to be a troll...genuinely interested.

Yep, all the "Test" I've seen so far have been all but equal test. That being said the Ford did very well against the GM in that "Test". 8 Seconds, hell a small 5mph headwind at a later time of day could have cause that!

the tests are unfairly fair.. everyone tests to prove a point, whatever that is. Ford does it, Chevy does it, Dodge does it.

there were design objectives. they are all different across brands. you won't hear what those were at the detail level, only the marketing speak level . there will be little details that can be exposed (like the exhaust brake performance difference when the engine revs are lower on one model vs another) in specifically designed tests..

For the life of me I do not understand the obsession of folks that are either justifying the purchase or bashing the SD - regardless of the test results.

When you have the biggest house, the largest bank account, the most stable family situation, best children, most beautiful wife, etc...... call me.

The SD has way more power than I can use and simply put, I love the truck.

If the current Adobe SD ends up no longer working for me, I'll buy something else.

Everyone can speculate about the fairness of these tests, and the real motives; however the bottom line is when Ford implemented the 400/800 upgrades, and their very next in house test comparisons was limited to fuel economy test against the Duramax, I knew Ford didn't have the upper hand in the towing department.

Just a reminder to some that don't know when Ford introduced the 2011 6.7 they had a very good set of videos' comparing Fords 2011 trucks to the 2010 Chevy and Dodge trucks with included towing performance tests, but now that test has been eliminated with the 2011 Duramax and I think we all know why!

How come no one questioned the driver? He could of easily been biased too!

One question I always wondered with the towing tests...is how much does Ford's sway control come in to play? Anytime something is using the brakes its going to effect the amount of forward motion. I understand that a properly loaded trailer its not supposed to affect anything, but a gust of wind, or an ill placed bump could be enough to activate it. just a thought. Monty

I doubt it, Monty.

I haven't towed as much as some have, but in ~2,000 miles towing my enclosed trailer I have never had the sway control activate. No ABS pulsing similar to the TCS, no warning message, and no noticeable braking action.

As you said, a properly loaded trailer shouldn't need it. I have to believe these guys know how to load a trailer!

I love chevy's and the duramax, but I love my powerstroke and 5 speed. But did anyone notice the Final drive difference? The Duramax had a 3:73, the powerstroke had a 3:55, and the cummins had a 4:10. Put the same final in each truck and I think 0-60 AND towing will go to the Ford, even though I still like the D-Max and I'm WAY late on this thread!
