How to tell if its rebulit?

Im going look at a 460 tommorrow and I want to find out if its been rebuilt or not. I know most people say that if it has been rebuilt by a shop then the rods will be stamped with numbers 1-8 corresponding to the cylinder number. Does anyone have any tips or secrets to be able to tell? Does the 460 have anything special that you could look at and tell?

Its came out of an 86 f350, even though that probably helps nothing. Buying the running 460 with the supposed working C6 for 500? Is that a good deal?

Without measuring it's hard to tell. I suppose you can use a bore scope and check for a cylinder ridge.

Pull the oil pan and look at the connecting rods and caps and look to see if they have been numbered. Often times on a rebuild this is done if the factory components are being reused.

It's not a Chevy, Ford stamped their rods 1-8 on the sides facing out.

Learn something new everyday. Is that on all their engines or just 385's?
