How fast will it go?

Just curious... my full size F150 with the 302 V8, simply loses all its power at about 85-90mph, not that I need to be going faster anyway.. but my friends I-6 F150 will get up to the same speed, just a little later.. does the '89 have a speed governer, or is the engine really not strong enough?

The engine is really not strong enough. Just think of all the air you are trying to push, these trucks were definitely not very aerodynamically designed, and air takes a lot of hp to move out of the way. My 93 is the same way. You might be able to go faster, but you would probably have to leave it in Drive and watch those rpm's.

I think it's a problem with your engine, transmission, or ignition. I put a '95 4.9L in my 3-ton Bronco and I have to back off at 93mph to keep the speedo from pegging too hard. (Yes, I have the tickets to prove it! )

i think you should get faster than that. maybe you just need a tuneup or if it was an old engine i could see it being worn a little.

I say it may just need a tuneup. I have a 90 with 260000 on the stock motor and could ride the gov all day long. It did take a mile and a half to get there though.
