what flex plate do I use?
I have a 94 f150 302 engine I am putting in a 72 ford truck with a c6 in it. Will I need to change flex plates or can I use the one on the 94 engine? I am not sure what the transmission was in the 94 truck only it was automatic 4x4. If I need to change can I then maybe use the one on the old 302 engine that came out of a 84 e150. Thanks for any help in advance.

Yes you can use the flexplate, the various transmissions found in these trucks have slightly different flexplates but the only trans that you absolutely must use the matching flexplate with is the AOD. The other parameter that must match is the counter weight but in this case both engines mentioned have 50oz imbalance so a flexplate from either will work. FWIW 1981 was the year the 5.0 switched from 28oz to 50oz.

Hey thanks. We got the old motor pulled a little while ago. I pulled the flex plate off it and the weights looked the same as the other. I will probally use it and keep the other in case I need it for something else later. Not sure if the donar truck had a aod but it probally did given the year model. Glad to finally get that leaking out of the engine bay. Darn thing leaked more oil than the gulf oil spill. Again thanks for the help.
