ticking
I'm at a lost... I'm not sure where to start i'm thinking of trying another ford dealer and let them tell me what's going on. one dealer said these trucks are good for about 189,000. And he was a ford dealer.. Wow i'm not trying to belive that..Is there anything else that would cause this ticking sound?

I have a 2004 with similar ticking. I had my mechanic look at it and he says it's simply the fuel injectors. He works for Visteon and dealt with these motors a LOT. Ford went away from the metal fuel injectors to plastic housing fuel injectors which echo like hell. I can hear it in the cab when the radio, fans are off and at idle, barely. If I roll down the driver's window I can hear it just a tad more. The reason you hear it in the cab is the right side of the motor the fuel injectors are closer to the firewall than the left.
He told me the cam phasers will cause other problems than just ticking, including it running like *** and practically stumbling over it's own nose when trying to accelerate. Honestly? If it's running okay, I don't think I'd worry about it a whole lot. Just my two cents.
Best of luck.

Well i have been dealing with my 07 5.4 tick since a few months after i bought it in 09. 1 st time was stuck lifters so replaced all on right bank. they started it the next morning and guess what ? still a tick. well said journal was plugged on #4 which is the lifters that were stuck, my question was why was lifters stuck in the first place, they dont check that out, just do enough to quiet it down. well a few months later it was ticking like a bomb and they called and confirmed that i had a tick on the right side. damn wish i had known that to start with! well 2.5 weeks later they stiil havent got it back together but they discovered it was a scored journal so are replacing the head and cam. thank for for the 6 year 50000 powertrain warranty. my only compliant is, if something isnt getting oil, shouldnt we find out why?

okay driving to work this am and going up a hill it suttered and finally got to the top and cut off and i crank it up only for it to die. cranked again and there was now a really loud like whining noise combine with the ticking. and ran really rough. had it towed to the shop. and i decided to go with an 80,000 mile engine for 3,500 installed. has anyone went this route? If so how much have you guy's paid? I could not afford the reman engine for 7,500 although the 3yr unlimted warranty sound like the way to go.
