Hey guys. I couldnt find the old posts on this topic.

I need to know what axles are availible to swap under a 56 f100. I may run the 3 inch wider fenders but to run a wider tire but I want to know what works and what i can pull from.

I am looking at one out of a 1966 f100 with 350 gears. Drum brakes. another site said this was 61.25 outer width. What does this mean?

Rear End Widths

Thanks guys

The width of a rear axle is usually measured from one wheel mounting surface to the other. The wheel mounting surface is the outside of the brake drum, rotor or hub- in other words whatever surface the lug nuts clamp the wheel to.

I got mine out of a mid-60's F-100, don't remember what exact year. The spring pads are in the same place as the original rear end so it bolts right in. The only problem I ran into is I want to keep the original width fenders so I need to narrow mine a little to fit wider tires.
