Question Refurbished Speedometer & Gauges

Has anyone had their Speedometer and Gauges refurbished? If so, can you give me recommendations? Need my 1952 Ford F1 Speedometer and Gauges looking like new again.

I have used Bob's Speedometer Service several times, and they do concours work. Expensive, but flawless!

There's a couple of fellows on the Ford Barn:

jrnichols642@yahoo.com

Bill Wells bwells4608@comcast.net I've bought a refurbed speedo from Bill. Great to deal with and price was very reasonable.

You can buy a brand new speedometer repo for around $150 and take the gauge assembly apart have bezel rechromed and repaint needles and save some money.

Speedo

I have a 56 and the speedo doesn’t return to 0. It work well and is accurate other than it returns to 20-25. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Thanks
Joe

They make repos. Here is one for $135.It may just need some lubrication.A lot of these speedometers have a plug you can remove for a little drop of oil.Not sure about a 56 speedo.Remove it and look at it for a lube point and run it with a drill or just hook cable back up and drive truck before going to all the trouble to completely install it back in to test!

Yes, there is a little weep hole for a drop or two of light oil. With old Speedos I worked on I used WD40 liberally in the hole, on the gears until I could spin it with my thumb and forefinger. I put a Q-tip in my drill inserted into the hole were the cable goes and put the drill in reverse I could get it up to 60.

will I be able to do this while the speedo is installed or will I have to remove? I’m thinking remove.

Unless you are Gumby or a contortionist you have to do it removed from the truck.

I think 56 instrument panel can come out through the front. I know the 53 to 55 panels can. You need to back them up, then turn them and bring them out the front partway then you can remove the wires and the Speedo cable. Then there are screws in the back to remove the Speedo head. Then you can see the gears to really lube them.

They might be something holding up your needle somewhere.

On my 54 by speedometer seized up a couple years ago and I did the same thing. Lot's of WD-40 then added drops of oil. Then used a square drive in the drill to spin the speedo.
Unfortunately with factor turn signals I couldn't get the speed out through the front. It came out the back but it wasn't easy.
