3" Plenums intakes are in

It was some what of a small battle but they are in. Beware Travis, the holes are not quite big enough. I did the drivers side first and got all the bolts in until I got to the second and third ones from the back on the inside. I almost forced them in but they are in. The passenger side was a different story, I could only get the top side bolts in and none of the bottom. I wiggle, prayed and pushed it around but no good. I pulled it back off and cleaned up all the gray silicone. I drilled out the holes just a tad, just a hair because this is such precision work, LOL. I got it on but the HPOP line had to be adjusted and because the plenums are rounded up in the middle I had to jerry rig my GPR mount. So here is a picture, it sure was nice to do with the turbo out of the way!

No, not really to bad of a job. Leaning over that motor gave me a headache so I quit. Walked the dog and it went away, I guess I just had to get the blood out of my head to my legs, LOL. Tomorrow the uppie's!

They might be hard to take a picture of Ben but I'll try. Here is the uppies before install. I hope to get at it tomorrow but who knows, there might be some plans around here that I'm not aware of yet. I'm like a toad around here, kept in the dark and feed shi!

Found a few hours and got the uppies in. This is the best I could do for a picture. Not much room in there!

Looks great. You sticking with the D66 turbo and going to a late '99 style IC spider?

I guess I'm not sure what your plans are to hook up in between the turbo and the 3" plenums... most of the guys I've seen upgrade to 3" are running bigger turbos...

looking real good Glen! Yeah, what are the plans? Where'd you get the pipes and plenum from?

Yup they look good.
So tell me how did you like that fittin on the front of the passenger side?
Mine gave me a battle. I installed the intake 3 times before I got the right combination of fittings to get past the plenum.

Now try to put a twin pump in on top of them. It can be done but is ... well ... I should say rather TIGHT!

It is a bit of work but you will be glad you did it. They look good and perform well with no issues. Now the short boots to the Y-pipe are hard to get on also but will not leak that is for sure. I used a large metal spoon, serving size, from the kitchen. Flattened it up a bit and slick it down and use as a shoe horn. LOL

Falcon, I'll stick with the D66 and the early 99 spider for now. Clay is helping me look for boots that will fit. My plenums were leaking so I thought I would put the 3 inchers on and figure out the spider later. I'm open to suggestions on what I can do. It does seen silly to have a small spider into the 3" plenums. Can a late 99 spider be adapted?

Dave, I got the plenums from DIperformance and the bellows from Clay. pricey, outh!

Thanks Darin!

Ya Neal, the front passenger side was a bitc!, that bolt under the hpop wasn't easy to get to. I had to stand on my head, wrap my legs around the hood and balance on one arm!! LOL I finally took it off and drilled out the holes just a tiny bit and that worked. No plans on twin pumps but like I told Falcon, I'm open to suggestions to what to do about the spider. Can a late 99 be apated to the D66? My goal was to stop leaks on the intake and exhaust side and set it up for future mods. What did the 'air bag' (I mean no disrespect) say about you using the spoon out of her kitchen?? I still laugh about that post you did about that comment when we were talking about air bags for our trucks! Just messing around yesterday I cut up the old boots and put two layers on the spider for the three inch boot to go over. I could have used the spoon for that! I put one side on and hose clamped it and then pulled like heck to get it all around and down. Looks real funny but it will work until I figure something else out.

I'm not sure if the outlet of the GTP38 is a different size than the stock TP38/D66. I would imagine that it's a different size, but if it's the same diameter and clamp style I would think that a late '99 spider would fit.
Let me know what you find out because when i do an intercooler I would much rather put 3" plenums on and run a late '99 spider than the smaller plenums and early '99 spider. More air is always a good thing IMO.

I just put new silicone boots on my stock plenums and they were a good 1/4 thicker than the stock boots and very rigid (the 30* temps probably didn't help that) and it was a real pain to get the y-pipe back in, but I used a 1/4" socket extension to shoe-horn it in. I must have had a leak from a broken boot for a while now and it finally gave out because my truck builds boost a LOT faster now. Not bad for a $10 upgrade.

The late spider is a bit different to accomodate for the different turbo mounting height on the late 99 turbo, and I believe the compressor outlet is a different size. I think you'll be hard pressed to get the late 99 spider to work with your D66.
