V-10 gas mileage??????
14, 15, 16mpg??? where are you guys driving?
Now I know I only have 700 miles on the new V-10 but if I get 8mpg around town I'm lucky
Someone said it will get better once the motor breaks in - well my 5.4 only used to get 10-12 mpg on it's best day maybe 13 but that was it so I'm not holding my breath.
Seriously - tell me 8mpg isn't going to be the norm for this thing

V-10 gas mileage??????
vze2372e, my driving per previous post was interstate in the carolina's which is not very hilly, and over the course of the 3 hour drive, it continuously averaged better the longer we drove. It stabilized at 17.4 after 2.5 hours and stayed there through the 3 hour drive.
I was taking it easy with no more than 68 mph, trying to see what the best could be in this rig.
Since last weekend, driving back 160 miles which was showing 14.4 on the road doing 80+ and not babying it, now is showing 12.2 since I have been driving to/from work on the same tank. Now, over 340 miles on the tank, and the gauge is showing 1/4 tank.
I think you are bound to get better when it is broken in. I have 12K miles on mine. Didn't experience breakin since I just picked this one up 2 weeks ago.
It is all stock as well.
Did I mention already how smooth and fun it is to drive?
If you never see an improvement, would suggest a service call to check on it and see if something is holding it back, however I am sure they will just tell you it is normal for breakin.
Not sure where that normal line get's drawn though

I sure hope not.
Mine 13 mpg.in mixed driving.
Since it's been cold,12mpg.in mixed driving.
I can subtract 1mpg.from this if I play a lot during a tankful.
Best in mixed driving was 14.1 babying it.
Towing 6500 lbs.1 tank 11mpg.driving 65 and 70mph on relatively flat ground. The remainder of tanks,10mpg.running 70mph.in all types of terrain and holding it there regardless of hill size.
Of course it has a manual trans.and the 3.73 gears.

WOW, You guys that are worried about gas mileage, I get 7.5 around town and 10.5 to 11 on the highway when I drive 70-75, towing I get around 9.75 at 70 mph = 20 ft 7000 lb V nose motorcycle trailer up and down the east coast (mountains of Virginia on 85= 5-6 MPG. If your gonna drive a V-10 you shouldn't be concerned with mileage

My 99 f250 super Duty. I bought this truck one weeks ago and have seen at best 13 on mostly highway and as little as 9mpg running back and forth to town (all manual calculations). With 92,800 miles.
The overhead has never shown more than 11.5 nor less than 10.5 since the day I bought it when it showed 9.5mpg which I suppose is because it had been sitting a few months....
I am really liking the sound of 17+ I would like to see some of that myself.. What kind of mods do you all have that are getting that kind of mileage?

In comparing mpg, we all know that there are many variables. One I think that is significant is the weight of each truck. These Ford trucks come in so many different combinations that one truck can weigh significantly more than another.
4X4 is 400 lbs, long beds another couple hundred, big tires another mpg killer, a truck with lots of bells and whistles adds more weight. Also, the 2004 and earlier trucks were lighter than the 2005 to present trucks.
As I am in the market for a used V-10 somewhere in the 2003 to 2005 years, I was wondering if anyone could tell me just how much weight was added from 2004 to 2005, and what contributed to that weight gain? I am going to be towing a 8,000 lb travel trailer and am wondering if it is worth going to the 2005, with it's updates over the earlier models?

I agree with most here, its a 7,000lb plus truck with a 415ci motor it ain't no eco-car.Not to be rude but worring about MPG while driving ANY truck is silly. There built to work not be a commuter.
I get 12-15 day in day out empty. I get 10 pulling my 5k lb boat and 8 pulling my 8k lb camper.

I have a loaded 2006 Super Crew Lariat with 4:10 gear and 5 speed Auto with 23,000 miles and I normally get 9.5 - 10 mpg around town, 13 on the road with 15 all around best. I manage 9.5 (same as city driving) towing our 30ft 5th wheel. I traded a loaded out 2004 F250 Powerstroke which got about 16 around town and got the exact same tow mileage!!! The maintenance costs on this 3v engine are nil compared to the diesel - which was one of the "bad" diesels. I had all kinds of trouble with it - none with the V10! I would get better mileage with the V10 - but I LOVE the power at stoplights - etc.!!! Moves 6,800 lbs smartly!!

In town: 12-13mpg when tires are at normal inflation. I have them down to 55psi back, 45psi front right now due to snow and ice. I get 10mpg with the tires like that.
Highway: Depends greatly on wind conditions. IF wind is not a factor, I get a little over 15mpg.
Towing: Towing a double axle 7k bumper pull trailer I get about 9.5mpg running the 91oct perf/tow tune from 5 Star.
Speaking of which - if get a tuner from 5 star, imo do not mess with the econo tunes. Just run the stock tune for that...it works about as well as an econo tune from Mike. The real value Mike gives is in the perf/tow tunes which will blow you away with both increased power and mpg. Mike rocks. I have an '08 F250 2WD/SB KR V10 4.10.

empty - driving on an egg
65mph cruise control flat highway = 13.5 mpg (140 miles)
City flats = MAYBE 8 mpg (100 miles)
I think I'm going to put up a for sale sign.
Also I can't find ANY info on someone's actual attempt to gain for mpg with a K&N drop in or a jet chip.... anyone help????
I know where you live has a HUGE part on mpg. My Acura nsx in TX averaged 28-29 mpg going about 85 mph average with a few high speed blasts upward of 140 mph, no cruise control, no a/c. In california, 24 mpg tops with cruise control @ 65 mpg.

I've had my 99 250 auto 4x4 ext cab 83k miles now for a whole 5 days, 240 miles. It had codes at day 1 and were repaired and cleared. So I don't if it's still "learning" or what but my only mod is a FM exhaust.

These vehicles do have a purpose that's to work and work hard and the downside is not so great mileage. Looking cool driving in a big truck comes at a price. This is no ranger but if you felt the need you could probably put it in the bed and make the truck do what it made to do...Work. I would think after a 5+ years of being a member to the site you would have researched the vehicle before buying. But seriously it only hurts when watching pump.
There are a lot of threads in this V10 section of guys doing mods to the earlier 10s and gaining some more power and mpg but not much. Bottom line it comes at a price.

I was optimistically hoping for 11/15 mpg. Just to be in the double digits. Cool wasn't a factor, small trucks just don't work out well to safely haul my 4 year old and I wanted to buy it cash at once so the Tacoma crew costed too much. Oh I did lots of research but the numbers always varied and there was alot of **** swinging going on the site that made it tough to seriously take anybody's word. I just bought the truck because the price was right and it's in prestine condition then hoped for the high side. I understand that the truck was built for work not getting 50 mpg but my NSX was also built to do 172 mph and obliterate corners. It doesn't mean the NSX can't be driven slow and cautiously or that the 250 can't be used for pleasure or simple transportation. I understand it was designed to work and haul. I just don't have that primary objective with it. I just wanted to haul myself and my 4 year old safely and comfortably around our new home in San Francisco.
Out of curiosity what possible MPG did you think you would get from 7500lb +/- truck?
