There is a few listed on craig's list here in Portland Or. I know it is a little far but if you save on the price then it will make up for it.

I have a three old Fords, check my signature so I have experience with a few different models. My F-2 is my baby, my dad originally bought in the late '60s to use in his auto repair business and I practically grew up in it for the next 6-7 years. I actually like driving the F-2 better than the F-1 panel I have. The F-2 feels like a truck, you have to double clutch it and it rides like a buck board but it's fun.

Compared to the size of today's trucks my F-2 is a small truck and I get just as much attention in it as I drive down the road as I would in a F-1. I don't think any one realizes it's considered a bigger truck. My truck is not fast but I enjoy just bouncing down the road in my truck taking in the scenery. If it's to slow for the guy behind me he can easily pass me.

It really all depends what you want in a truck. Do you want an old truck with all it's old truck characteristics or do you want a sexy racy truck? One thing I would strongly urge you to consider is although the F-2 and F-3 models are basically the same trucks the F-3 has some problems, mainly the wheels and rear brakes. The F-3's have stock Widow Maker wheels and the rear brakes are hard to find parts for.

Also...if you like Criagslist, you'll really like Crazedlist.

It's a way to search Craigslist in mulitple cities:

crazedlist.org : search craigslist like a madman

It's a pain to set up & I found that it is easier to set up and use when I use Firefox for a web browser.

Welcome to the forum! You've definitely did your due dilligence before making your first post.

A few years ago, I pulled out a 48-50 F2 out of some woods in Felton. I paid $200 for it. It was all there, just missing some glass and trim.

Several months ago there was a 48-50 F1 advertised on CL for $750. It was in Pittsburg (CA and not PA) and was being sold by a vehicle donation outfit. I searched CL, but the ad is no longer there.

I suggest that you keep searching until you find a truck that will suit your needs or will come close. Like you stated yourself, you may need several trucks to build one that you really want.

If you need help or have questions, I'm not that far away from you in San Jose.

Hey 51PanelMan,

Thanks for the welcome, it's great to have local resources like you and the other folks posting here. I did see the ad for that '48 f1 in Pittsburg, but I wasn't able to get up to look at it until the DAY after it sold! It was still on the lot waiting to get picked up so I got a chance to check it out briefly... mostly there but pretty badly rotted out underneath. I'm still on the fence about whether it was truly too far gone though.

And a few other things...

ct50f1 - I have heard that flathead six parts are harder to come by, and I can believe it. I suppose it is for the best then that I'm stuck on getting a v8.

mtflat - it is probably my better half's greatest fear that I get a whole fleet of trucks and turn the driveway into a swap meet... how do I wear her down on this issue???

Bob and Julie - you've both been a great source of information on the f2s and f3s, and I always look forward to reading your posts.

thanks to everyone for the welcome and for sharing their knowledge. I'm sure I'll have more questions as things progress.

Hi and welcome to our dis-ease...you will find your truck,, mine found me...rusty, non-runner moss covered,,and I was in lust..she now runs.and almost stops when I try.. as for the wife.. I have an understanding with mine.. no old girlfriends..and no more then 3 vehicles in the yard at once..she is happy ..mostly and now I have a barn for storage..you are in california..I understood you had ALL the rust free old cars an' trucks...just sitting waiting for a new home.. guess that is part of the "paved with gold " story..the bigger trucks are more fun.. but that is personal ..like your truck will be ..the only one that need's to be happy with this truck ..is you..build what you want ...you will get a lot of help here..enjoy!!

I'll keep that truck in mind iwanaflattie. I will have to turn down your offer for the free bodywork though...

By the way, I would love to see some footage of that big red monster parallel parking!
