Cam phaser or other issue?

Cam phaser or other issue?
I am looking for some help on a cam phaser issue. I have every symptom that comes up with this issue: the diesel noise, the knocking at idle, slight loss of horsepower and decrease in gas mileage. The Ford Dealership even told me when I took it in that the issue is a cam phaser and don’t worry about it. In fact, don’t fix it and “just drive it.”
The specific problem I took the vehicle in for is a noise during acceleration. It kind of sounds like a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle. Only happens when the gas pedal is depressed while the vehicle is in drive. Sound is not present if you push the gas down while in park. The rattling is the same noise and volume if I smash down the gas or barely press it down.
Everything I have read on cam phasers is more about the diesel noise, but I have not found anything specifically to say that a bad cam phaser will cause rattling noise during acceleration. The noise can be heard with the windows down, or the windows up with no radio. Turn the radio on just a little bit, and it will drown out the rattle sound.
Anyone with the cam phaser issue have the same problem? Or do I have a 2nd problem that the dealership did not pin point? Thanks for any help you can lend before I continue to drive and destroy my truck!

If it is a 4x4 it could be the vacuum system that controls the engagement of the front hubs.
Edit: Here is a good thread about the front hub system

I am new to Ford. I have had my F150 FX4 for a few months, but I am a service advisor for Dodge. I have been a writer for 15 yrs so I have a little knowledge about vehicles. My truck was making a bad grinding noise from the engine area when starting cold and also would pop spit and sputter while trying to accelrate hard. The popping was there cold or hot. I just took it in to the local Ford dealership and I received a est for replacing the phasers, timing chain, valve body and solenoid, and timing chain tensioners. I don't hear anything while accelerating soft only if I punch down on it and when you do there is no get up and go at all. I hope that this helps.

I HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM. I ONLY HEAR MINE BETWEEN 800 AND 1300 RPMS. CAM PHASERS HAVE BEEN REPLACED 2 TIMES BY DEALER. IT NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM. IT ONLY DOES IT WHEN MOTOR IS WARM, DOESNT DO IT WHEN COLD. DRIVER SIDE NOISE. WINDOWS DOWN OR UP WITH NO RADIO, RADIO ON DONT HEAR IT. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER DEALER, THEY DIDNT KNOW EITHER SAID IT WAS IN THE VALVE TRAIN AND NEEDED TO BE INSPECTED. IVE HEARD OF TIMING CHAIN GUIDES BRAKING AND THE CHAIN EATING THE COVER, OR THE LASH ADJUSTERS. THEY NEVER GOT IT FIXED UNDER WARRANTY(ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED AT FIRST CAUSE DONT DO IT COLD) WOULD GET HOME AND HEAR IT. NOW THEY CLAIM ITS NORMAL NOISE, THIS AINT NORMAL AND THIS AINT CAM PHASERS, I KNOW THAT NOISE, NEVER WAS CAM PHASERS, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A DEALER THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING, AND PLEASE LET US KNOW.
