Truck runs really bad
OK folks. If anyone has the time I need help. Project is an '95 PSD, 5speed. I recently purchased this truck from the neighbor. I know little about its history. I'm apparently the 4th owner. Truck was purchased new and used for propane delivery. Some time back, can't find the original post, I asked for suggestions for this truck's intermittent, running poorly. A couple of responses said to check the wiring connections at valve cover. Ordered a kit, replacement gasket/harness repair kit from Swamps. This kit included under valve cover wiring for injectors and glow plugs. There was a burned up connection at right rear connector and valve cover gasket. While changing this connector I realized that it had been changed at least once before by the tell-tale butt splices. I replaced both wire harness connectors and truck still ran poorly (would not idle and cut off). Changed the CPS and installed a known working IDM. I'm out of extra parts and at a road block. I have the Auto Enginuity (AE) program for a laptop; however, this truck does not have OBD II port but has something in the same spot with different configuration. After changing CPS, the truck ran for awhile missing VERY badly (30 sec. or so) and check engine light came on. Now when truck cranks check engine light comes on and will not fire until truck sits for several minutes. At that time, it will fire, run poorly and cut off.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Oil looks kinda thick, but full. Fuel pressure at schrader valve while running/ stumbling 50 lbs. with good tire gauge. Fuel filter was changed recently, I showed the neighbor how to change it, and has 15(?) min. on it. Screen is probably bad. Have not been able to notice smoke because it is outside and wind is blowing. My '96 250 has OBD II, this is '95-350.

The truck is pre-OBD II and therefore a hardware issue. I will have to wait to pull the valve covers, maybe later. It does not run much over 20 seconds, will this be enough time to see the phenomenon you mention?. If it is O rings are they hard to change? I have never had Powerstroke inj's. out.

Well now, you have me wondering. I matched the title to the truck, however, the title says '95 GAS. Is it possible that the title is worse than off on fuel type but year as well? Could it be that she is really a '941/2? There are no "Powerstroke" markings on truck, nor "Turbo Diesel." Yet she has the Direct Inj. engine cover and does not have the OBD II port. She does have a plug-in port there with a rectangular configuration. Engine valve cover states 215 HP @3000 RPM and meets all emission requirements .... and California too. She had a 100 volt IDM which is what a Ca. truck would have or so I thought. Anyone have any thoughts?

I don't think it was a conversion. It was owned first by a " Fuel Oil" company that also has a LP arm of the company, this one hauled LP tanks. They have several of these trucks all set up the same. They have one for sale now for $3,000. This one was much cheaper, with nearly new rubber and a very recent dual-mass flywheel/clutch swap. '95 F-350 PSD 5 speed, 12' bed flat bed with side boxes, 2 wheel drive. The "intermittent" poor running became full time about the time I bought it.

OK, pulled both valve covers and drivers side front wiring connector is fried, worse than the first one on passenger side. There is also one lighter colored injector 2nd from front. This inj. very noticeable by color and is stamped 1888, or 8881 depending how it's oriented. Looks like stamped by hand. Ordered another kit. Will keep posted.
