sexy brake booster question.

sexy brake booster question.
Yesterday I bought a set of Edelbrock tall@profile "Elite series" valve covers that match my air cleaner. The drivers side cover will not fit under my brake booster. (Volare~chrysler) I am prolly going to buy a different booster@and keep the covers. Will pretty much any new b ooster work?

I don't know how you roll but here is my input.
I have a unit from a 91 t-bird. it has a (aprox) 12' dia and is reltively thin from firewall to m/cly mount location. I have spent almost as much time in the salvage yard as time in the garage, If you are going the salvage yard route, look at the ford explorers. they have a boost unit that is alot smaller in diameter, but stick out away from the firewall alot farther. I think I have seen on here where some of the guys here have used the explorer unit. Of course I'm not the expert here but theres my two cents!

I'd say hit the wrecking yard up and find a booster that will work. I used one of a mid 90's Ford Focus on my 49 with a GM master cylinder.
When you mix and match master cylinders with brake boosters take care to get the right length pushrod between the two; too long and the brakes are trying to apply all the time, too short and you'll get wonky activation of the brakes. A lot of the pushrods have an adjustable end andits easy enough to cut the whole thing down to size and then fine tune it with the adjustable bit.
Since I'm running a GM MC with my Ford booster I had to "massage" the mounting holes a little bit...lol

The 2 bolts for the MC on the Ford booster were a bit wider than my GM MC. I had to oblong the holes in the MC a little bit.....no biggie

raerjim is your firewall stock? if so does it have hole for the clutch master?
I ran into the same problem on my 58 F100 so I moved my booster over to the clutch hole
to clear the 5.4 DOHC that I'm putting in
and reworked my pedal assembly to keep the pedal in the factory location
I added pics to show you by the way its a CCP boster and master.

I like the offset idea..Sam you might want to study this pic,..I'm sure you can dream up something similar..
Jim, don't overlook the early-late model ford ranger booster/master cylinder..and combo valve.
Since the factory master was attached to the frame, it was a pretty stout mount..mounting the booster/master cyl to the sheetmetal only will flex the sheetmetal to the point of failure. The above design looks like it triangulates the firewall and dash..I like overkill.
