Lightbulb Truck Pull Advice!!!!!!

My buddies keep getting at me about my 300 because its a I6. Well I was stupid and said that I would hook up bumper to bumper and pull them around the parking lot. I thought, and was told by a few owners of 90's 4.9Ls, that the engine would make enough torque to get the job done. As well, I thought that I would get enough traction to do this.

Here is what I have:
-91 F150XLT Lariat Xcab
-4.9 300 I6
-2wd
-NO HITCH
-31" A/T tires
-K+N filter.......I know it came with the truck

Is this a good combo? Can I pull a 92F150 302? What about a '97 Dodge 1500? What about a 70's Box Chevy with a 350?

Axle ratio?
Open or LS diff?

You'll likely pull the bumper off it, there's a reason for frame hitches.

if you can get traction and you know how to transfer the weight to your truck and depending on the comptetion. if your up against a big block 8 you would lose. it depends on what they have

Truck Pull Advice!!!!!!

I'm quite aware that the bumper would come right off...I was referring to how we were going to compete. Rear-to-rear would be more precise a description. I meant with a chain or tow rope from my frame to their hitch or frame. I don't know the axle ratio or if I have an open or limited slip differential. Where can I find this out? Is it in the door?

Don't let them hook up higher than you, keep it axle to axle. Tho, if you both hook traction, your might get your driveshaft pulled out. I'd say you will take the 302 F150 if all else was even, don't know about the dodge. I think the 350 chebby would take you for a ride.

traction, traction, tractionm axle ratios trannys and tire size all affect the outcome. throw some weight in ur box and hook up low and u should tug the 302 and dodge, the chebby if its stock shouldnt give to much trouble cuz they were terds in the 70s. in fact i wanna hook up to my buddies 70s cheby w/ 350, auto and i think ill win or it'll tie unless he has some major mods. u also risk droppin a driveshaft, burnin the tranny up if its an auto but an auto will be better off. might wanna get a better flowing exhaust on thier and u shouldnt have much of a problem.

well i have done thins whith my 150 (in the sig for stats) and i out pulled a 95 dodge (i think he had a 318). So depending on motor then you may or may not be able to get the dodge, you will get the 302 ford and wont get the 350 (dont even try the 350, dont whant to damage your rig in a fight you know youll loose). I would say steer clear of hooking to the axle or bumper, try using the frames as these are the stronges part of the truck (duh ). but dont let them get higher than you and just give em hell!

i would not try to pull out a 350, it has a major advantage over the 300 in the cubes department. Ford 302, chebby 305, and whatever size dodge uses as a small block (i dont pay much attention to them), go for it, as long as you got the traction and can stay around 2k-2.5k rpms at full throttle (torque peak, tehehehe) your motor will be able to outpull almsot any smallblock around that size. keep your tranny in first, hook up by the frame rails, and make sure you have decent gearing as well, as the others have mentioned.

just dont pull for too long, your motor may be able to take the heat, but i can almost quarntee that your tranny and rear diff wont take the strain for too long.

You have a 3800# axle with 3.08 gears and an open differential. This is the worst possible combination for your anticipated truck pull, or any other performance use. You really need bigger gears and either a limited slip or a locker if you want to play rough.

How do you know this? Is there a chart that you have?

Why is this a bad towing combo? What combo do you have?

Where and how do I get a better combo?........
bigger gears and locker?
