what does white smoke on warm engine mean?

In previous posts I was wondering if I have an injector failing, but this leads me to another quetsion, how can you have white smoke after the engine is warmed up? If white smoke is unburnt fuel, doesn't that mean the injector is still putting fuel into the cylinder? If it is, why isn't it combusting?

Or does it mean more that the injector isn't putting the fuel in at the right time, so it just gets pumped out the exhaust?

When I rev it up in neutral, it hesitates, and I hear it sputter abit, then puke out a clound of white smoke. Also with new vavle cover harnesses, and new glow plugs, it still sends alot of white smoke at start up, and for the first 20-30 seconds on driving, (temp now is around 40 deg).

Just trying to understand what the white smoke means, when the truck is all warmed up. Thanks.

How about the glow plug relay, is that new? MIne just started smoking again since it cooled off. Did the relay last year and I will do the glow plugs in a couple weeks.....

I think white smoke can also be coolant burning. How's your level look? What about the color?

White smoke is LACK of fuel like when your fuel pump is going out. Unburnt fuel is black smoke.

Why does it throw white smoke when it starts cold then? I thought that was the fuel entering a cylinder not warm enough to combust and it is pumped out??

White smoke on startup is the unburnt fuel due to too cool of a combustion temp. I did some reading and apparently that can happen when the engine is also warmed up due to insufficient fuel while running (ex, low fuel pressure or clogged filter). That could be your issue with the hesitation. Got a way to check the fuel pressure while driving? The early PSD's have a mechanical fuel pump in the back of the valley.

Lack of fuel will also cause a noisy engine.
