Heat insulation coming down onto the turbo's and causing a fire

I have heard of a few people already that have had the insulation come down onto the turbo's resulting in a fire.

I have notice mine is starting to come down as well. I am going to look at it closer tonight.

I urge all of you to inspect your heat shield's for this issue. If it cannot be fixed easy or if you are out of warranty then I would suggest you report the safety issue to NHTSA

Vehicle Safety | National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

Left hand side of the webpage you can e-mail or call the 1-888 #.

Hope this saves someone from a melt down.

Good post. Ford has a replacement coming for my rig this week. Was the first thing I noticed when I popped the hood for the first time.

Just to keep this alive. I submitted on the website. I got a response so if others are having it comedown or already have I ask that you report it as well. If they get enough then maybe a recall will be issued.

that may force ford to re-design the heatshield do it does not come down with time.

Mine appears to be fine, but I submitted it as a potential problem based on other owner experiences.

It is the heat shield against the firewall right there where the turbos are.

Yep on three of our service truck this has happen. We fixed them with 3m high temp adhesive haven't had a problem since. Have to agree its a crapy design and they should fix it

I used double side tape on the edge of the insulation and it solved my sag.

Also I have the turbos socked and pipes wrapped so I hope this doesn't happen to me and anybody else.

Mine fell after an oil change from dealership a few months back

Weird wonder what the heck they were doing back there...

Best pic I can find without going and taking one.

Its the silver lining against firewall. Pop the hood and you'll see it.

I'm kinda resurrecting an old thread here and am off topic, but what am I seeing there in the pic submitted by Longview1 where it appears there is a band clamp on the oil breather thing and the breather hose is removed from between the oil filler "thingy" to the air intake. sorry for such "technical jargon but cant think of official name for that. any rate...it appears the breather hose has been removed and clamped off?? what is benefit of that and how did you go about plugging that off? I looks like a bolt clamped in the intake connecfion..what did you do at the oil filler end?? route a hose down toward ground?
