Headlights blink off and on

Just lately my Headlights started to blink randomly off and then on again as I am driving. When they go off the Daytimers and running lights stay on...just theHeadlights flick on and off . Also if I shut down lights manually (just leave the running lights on) for a few minutes it seems to delay the blinking for a few minutes once I turn them back on ..Overheating? Truck is a 92 F-350

If you have a floor mounted dimmer switch, I would start with that. My lights were doing the same thing on my 1990 F250 until I replaced the switch. Hope that works

Safeway Pete: Sounds like the same problem I had a while ago. I couldn't trace it 'cause it would always work when I didn't want it to. Anyway, I replaced the headlight switch and it cured the problem! Good luck.

Your switch is just about to get fried. When the switch is cold, the contact inside it works fine. As the switch gets hot, the contact open and causes your lights to flicker and as it cools, it makes contact again, etc, etc. I just had my switch do that to me yesterday and by the time I got home, it was fried. The prong for the headlights became loose and eventually disconnected in the switch. Resistance creates heat and it will probably melt the plug, as it did mine.

Luckily, these switches are common and don't have to be bought from the dealer. They want $20 more than the parts store.
