78 crew cab 2wd to 4wd conversion

Truck started a 78 long bed 2wd std. cab. I then acquired a 76 4wd short bed crew cab. box was rusted out, front end was trashed, but cab salvageable.

well anyways. i swapped in a dana 60 front, dana 60 rear. Im waiting to get drivelines so that i can install my transfer case which is a np205 unit. Hoping to get atleast the rear driveline made and then i can get a front one later. It sitting on some 38.5 tsl but they are pretty bald and crummy tires and only measure to being 35" tall. im looking for some 39.5 swampers. I cant wait to do some major wheelin soon. i still am trying to convert from the highboy style power assist steering to full power steering. Im using an f-150 4wd box. and im converting to high steer setup and a crossover steering style. Ive got the parts but its been really raining and bad weather.

****er took the easy way out and used a 4wd frame. Hell dan could do that. Kris send up what we talked about the other day. I could have had my truck done already if not for changing my mind. Althought now that ive changed stuff so much my damn frame looks like swiss cheese. But that all changes the 20th of nov.

i used a 2wd frame. after i got the crew cab chassis, i removed the rear axle, and then i used a torch and cut the frame. I cut out the rear shackles and the front hangers and left some small pieces of the frame chunks on. then when i removed all the 2wd crap, i rolled the diff under with tires and then jacked the diff up until the frame chunks were on my frame. then i ended up measuring it all out and centered it up and welded it on. then took some plates and plated and boxed it all in. its working good. i did a shackle flip and drop and then a 4" block in the rear. still needs some more lift in the back, think im going to squeeze in another 1" block.

Wow, so that's what a late 70's 4x4 crew cab looks like. I've been waiting forever for Cheeto to figure out his debaucle...

well i finally was able to ditch that crappy highboy power assist bs.

i used a 79 f-150 power box. I made a custom shaft to attach it to the colum. I took the steering arm off the drivers side of the axle, cut it off, welded it onto the front of the block and then moved it to the passenger side. I used some ball joint ends i had from my 2wd steering stuff and used a piece of motorcycle frame rail tubing to make a drag link. i used a p/s pump i found on another 79 truck. Steering is working great. Drives AWESOME now, steering is smooth and easy.

it was a lot of custom fab but i now have a high steer crossover setup and im happy. now im looking to buy new tires install my np205 and get some drivelines made. i can see putting this t-case in looks to be some work. but i have the bracket and all the things to do it.

still trying to find a 4.10 equipt dana 60 rear end. i have 1 dana 60 3.54 limited slip rear end, but id like to get a 4.10.
