FYI - "Wiring Fault in Trailer"
I have a 2011 Super Duty King Ranch (with the full color LCD information center). This is an FYI post, in case any of you run across the same issue.
When I recently took delivery of my new 5th wheel RV, we (the RV service techs and I) had a few minutes of confusion on initial hookup. Once the 7-pin was connected, the information center would initially display the typical light blue background "Trailer Connected", then immediately would display an amber background "Wiring fault in trailer". A few seconds later, the message would disappear and any attempt at adjusting the brake controller gain or viewing trailer information through "Truck Apps" would result in a message that read "Trailer Disconnected". All the while, all lights on the trailer (brakes, turn signals, etc) were working fine.
We fiddled with it for a few minutes while the RV techs blamed Ford and I blamed the RV techs. My *wife* then noticed that the safety breakaway pin was not installed. This is the little plastic pin that has a small cable attached to it. Designed to pull out should your hitch ever let loose, thus activating the trailer brakes and minimizing potential damage. The RV tech turned red and went to get another pin. Once installed, everything worked as it should.
Moral of the story: your truck probably knows what it's talking about
