Wagner Tuning

Wagner Tuning is a renowned aftermarket performance parts manufacturer headquartered in Germany. Among their most popular products in recent years have been the intercoolers designed to replace the stock items in EcoBoost engines. These intercoolers allow for better cooling in the power unit, which ultimately, means more power from the turbocharger.

Idea Sparked

The idea behind this build came about when Henry Bueno, the general manager of Wagner Tuning North America in Fresno, CA came across an old Ford F-1 parked in the lot of the next-door tire shop. Bueno saw this as an opportunity to build a truck to showcase Wagner's products with the V6 EcoBoost engine tandem with an automatic transmission.

Kicking Off

Bueno pitched the project to the headquarters and got the go-ahead. And to undertake this build, he enlisted the expertise of Jacob Stone, owner of Stone Custom Fabrication nearby in Fresno. A new chassis needed to be built for the F-1, among other updates, before the powertrain and drivetrain could be installed.

Fitting The Motor

The build was centered around the engine. But there was a bit of an issue. Fitting the modified motor into the engine bay of the old truck wasn't as easy as they had imagined. They had to remove the firewall and fabricate a custom firewall, as well as several other components, including a fuel cell pump. Other modifications to be body were performed during this step as well, such as changes to the bed, the fenders, and chopping off an inch from the bottom of the truck.

Ready to Go

They managed to fit the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost and the automatic gearbox with custom wiring and hoses to ensure everything worked in harmony. Aside from the Wagner intercooler, a 400-338 air intake system from AIRAID was also incorporated into the build, which is supposed to add 33 horsepower to the setup.

Finishing Touches

Pulling everything together, the guys at Stone Custom Fabrication built the suspension onto the chassis they had built. And to put the finishing touches on this restomod, Eduardo’s Upholstery was commissioned to wrap the whole interior in beautiful leather. The process took about four months once the build was kicked off. And this cool F-1 was featured by Wagner Tuning at the 2016 SEMA Show.
