Vintage Ford Pickup Takes Down Challenger Hellcat In Drag Race
This wickedly fast Ford embarrassed its Mopar foe on the track.
Shocking Result
These days, we're spoiled with a number of ultra-powerful and incredibly quick vehicles available straight from the dealership. Most of these modern muscle/sports/exotic cars are capable of ripping off seriously impressive times at the drag strip too, right out of the box, including the much-lauded Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Thus, most attending this race between a Challenger Hellcat and vintage Ford pickup captured in this video by Wheels probably expected a far different result than what really went down.
Modern Muscle
The Challenger Hellcat, of course, touts a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that cranks out over 700 horsepower, though it's also quite heavy, with a curb weight of around 4,400 pounds. Quarter-mile times vary, but generally, these cars can run high 11s with no problem, which is pretty impressive.
Show and Go
As for the Blue Oval pickup in this video, well, there isn't any information provided about it, so we can't quite tell what's lurking at the front in the hoodless engine bay. Regardless, we do know that it's owned and raced by the folks at DeWild Performance, and it's not just a good-looking show queen by any means.
Defying Physics
As the Challenger Hellcat driver is about to find out the hard way, this classic pickup has been modified to the point where it defies physics by ripping off some seriously quick e.t.s. The truck sounds nasty, clearly letting everyone in earshot know that it's here to win.
Total Mismatch
And things get off to a splendid start for the driver of the old Ford, which lifts its front wheels in the air, squatting on the back tires and taking off like a rocket. From the very first split second of this race, it's obvious that these two vehicles are more than a little mismatched in this particular race.
Major Gap
The old Ford simply walks away from the Challenger, increasing the gap between the two to multiple bus lengths before either even gets close to the finish line. The result is pretty embarrassing, at least for the Mopar owner, as the Ford pickup records an incredibly impressive 8.73-second pass at 155 miles-per-hour versus the Dodge's 11.26-second run at 120 mph.
Drag Strip Destroyer
Aside from folks that have seen this vintage Blue Oval pickup in action before, it's likely that no one at the track saw this coming. It's an extremely impressive outing from a truck that was never designed to be a drag strip dominator and watching it destroy a Challenger Hellcat just makes it even better in our humble opinion.
