This 1-Ton 1941 Pickup Will Do Everything But Give You the Blues

At some point in our lives, we will receive a gift from someone that is a complete surprise to us. Sometimes it's something you wanted while other times it could be something you didn't know you wanted. Then there are those times we get gifts that we just don't know what to do with.

A gift from the missus

So the tale of how Terry Timberman came about owning this commercial 1-ton goes back some years to his wife, Linda, who heard about a truck for sale. Through the grapevine, there was some talk of an older gentleman who owned a classic truck that he was no longer able to drive and was sitting in a garage. Linda sought out the owner of the truck and bought it sight unseen as a surprise gift for Terry.

It seemed like the perfect purchase

It just so happens that the couple owns an engine rebuild shop and Linda thought the truck would a great shop vehicle as well as a rolling billboard for the business. Well, when Terry laid eyes on the present from his wife he was very surprised indeed. What had first appeared to be a run of the mill 1/2 was actually a 1-ton that they hauled back to the shop. The truck was placed in a side yard and a For Sale sign in the window with the fire sale price of $25!

It's about time

After the combo of not getting any inquiries on the truck and getting tired of the teasing by other members of their New Orleans Street Rod Association Terry decided to do something about it. The truck was in rough shape but the couple was up for the challenge of restoring this classic pickup. When the truck was first purchased it was in good condition from sitting inside most of its years but the Timbermans had let it languish outside at the mercy of the elements beating up on the poor pickup.

When in doubt, hand it off

Terry knew he was out of his comfort zone and turned the truck over to his good friend Pete Tauffro, who owns Reliable Street Rods. Pete worked his magic on the old Ford for close to 13 months to get it back into the shape you see before you. The truck has gone onto to win some class awards at World of Wheels show. Terry commented that he gets a lot of people that are a bit confused by his truck since the majority of the public are familiar with the 1/2 ton and are thrown off by his full ton blue pickup.

A time for the 1-ton

The 1-ton variants of the classic pickups were built using a 122-inch wheelbase and a longer bed than what the 1/2 ton versions received. Under the hood of the blue pickup remains the Flathead V8 engine albeit a rebuilt one hooked to a 3-speed manual.
