Built Ford Tough?

The marketing slogan "Built Ford Tough" has been around for decades now, and it's one that the automaker has backed up by producing some seriously capable, extremely reliable vehicles over those years. But even the toughest Ford truck ever built can't quite match the longevity of this stone pickup created by artist Chris Miller. Miller found inspiration in a classic '40s pickup one day and decided to use it to create a very unique and interesting piece of static art.

Up To the Task

Miller made his first stone pickup around eight years ago, but recently got the itch to do it again. And so he set out to put his 45 years of granite, wood, and marble carving experience to the test. Miller's previous works have graced several private collections and sculpture galleries over the years, so he was clearly up to the task.

Second Time Around

Miller's first stone pickup was built near his home and inspired by his appreciation of vintage vehicles and patina. But it was rather simple compared to his latest creation. This time around, the elaborate piece of artwork can be seen in front of a car wash in McDonough, Georgia, which is located about 30 minutes south of Atlanta on I-75.

Back Breaking Project

To say that this was a back-breaking project might be a bit of an understatement. It took a whopping 45,000 pounds of stone and 350 hours of labor to create the stone pickup. Amazingly, the 80-year-old Miller spent 280 hours on it himself but recruited some help for the other 70 hours. The crew stayed hydrated by consuming eight gallons of Gatorade in the hot Georgia sun.

Head Turner

It goes without saying that the end result is one of the cooler and more unique pieces of artwork we've ever seen. Miller's latest stone truck is guaranteed to turn heads for many, many years to come, and that's more than we can say for most stone sculptures out there in the world.
