If a love for classic Ford trucks is odd, we don't want to be normal!

1. Common Interests

Car clubs have existed nearly as long as hot rods, and they still play an important part in car culture today. The concept is simple - get a bunch of like-minded folks together. Hang out and cruise around in your awesome rides. Talk shop and become friends. And what's better than that? All of the above describes a little Southern California club known as the "Odd Squad." But judging by their feature spread in Hot Rod, they also share another thing in common - a love for vintage Ford trucks!

2. Turning Bad into Good

SoCal has always been at the forefront of car culture, so it's no surprise that a club this awesome would operate there. With comfy temps year-round and little rain or dreaded snow, there's no better place to find and own an awesome old ride. But the idea behind the Odd Squad stems from something a little different than most car clubs - rejection.

3. Dare to be Different

It all started when founding member Blake Weddington was looking for a club to join. But after experiencing how most clubs treated their members, he decided to start his own - one that would do things much differently than the status quo. “Many car clubs will put you through the ringer when you’re pledging to get into their group, making you undergo all sorts of activities as a sort of initiation and then make you pay dues as well as build your car a certain way to meet their laundry lists of requirements,” Weddington explained. But the Odd Squad wasn't about to operate that way.

4. Keeping it Real

Thus, the Odd Squad was born in 2012 with a focus on people, not just cars. After all, the cars are what bring people together, kind of a bonding mechanism. Odd Squad members, therefore, pay no dues and face no set requirements for participation or type of vehicle they must own. The only rule? Your vehicle must be a pre-1965 model because the focus here is on traditional hot rods, not muscle cars and trucks.

5. Equal Footing

The result is one relaxed and awesome group of people (and trucks!). And it's an environment that most everyone would feel comfortable in. In fact, Odd Squad meets aren't limited to members only. Anyone and everyone are welcome, even other clubs. No one has a particular status that makes them better than anyone else, and everyone is on equal ground regardless of their income or background. Judging by the awesome Ford trucks in the club, however, we know they share at least one thing in common - good taste!
