Tough Trucks

For those seeking a modified Ford F-150 these days, there is a dizzying array of options available. Everything from a visually modified but mechanically stock pickup to trucks packing upwards of 800 horsepower and pretty much everything in between. But an outfit dubbed Mil-Spec Automotive aims to do things a bit differently than most of the existing competition by building truly unstoppable trucks that also happen to pack a ton of visual punch, too.

Tame Comparison

An F-150 Raptor actually looks a bit tame in comparison to one of Mil-Spec's F-150s, and that's by design. These trucks are given a military-style aesthetic that they've developed by building a variety of Hummer H1s in the past. Now, however, they're turning their attention to the world's best-selling pickup.

Base Truck

Starting out with an XLT equipped with Ford's 5.0-liter Coyote V8, Mil-Spec's creations feature a base MSRP of $85,000 including the cost of the donor truck. That money gets buyers some performance upgrades for starters. First Mil-Spec gives the truck a bit more power with a cold-air intake, exhaust, bigger throttle body, and a tune. That's good enough for an even 500 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque and a 5.7-second 0-60 time.

Getting Wide

Next up, Mil-Spec gives the F-150 a more menacing look with new and rather wide fiberglass front and rear fenders, a new grille, lots of off-road lighting, a push bar, powder-coated bumpers, side steps, and a slew of graphics. An available Baja appearance package adds a bed-mounted chase rack and spare tire, along with a low-profile roof rack stuffed with more lighting.

Special Touches

Also optional is the Baja Performance Suspension Package that adds Fox shocks, Eibach springs, long-travel control arms, and extended front axle half shafts and brake lines. Even the interior features some special touches including Raptor paddle shifters and steering wheel, along with a bunch of Mil-Spec badges and leather seats.

Head Turner

Throw on a set of military-look 20-inch wheels wrapped in 37-inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, and you've got a pickup that looks absolutely menacing. One that's designed to go just about anywhere, but also draws a crowd at the local shopping mall on a busy Saturday afternoon as well.

Welcome Addition

Mil-Spec's F-150 is a welcome addition to an already packed aftermarket of offerings that provides a fresh take on a design that's been modified and enhanced for years now. And we imagine that they'll sell their fair share of these cool pickups once they start hitting the market in the coming months for those very same reasons.
