Daily Slideshow: The Case for the Ford F-450 Supertruck

The F-450 is the bottom line for Ford trucks, at least in terms of creature comforts.

1. There's a Ford truck out there for everyone

There are trims and grades of Ford's F-Series of trucks that could suit just about any car owner's wallet. You see the pickup truck around every tier of society as a result. Despite its obvious working class connotations, the F-Series remains the best selling vehicle in the United States for households with an income of over $200,000 USD. Keeping this affluent bracket in mind, Ford has gone above and beyond with the F-450 Limited Supertruck. Although its luxurious approach to the F-Series has raised a few eyebrow from pragmatic customers, you should find everything you would want in a pickup somewhere in this model.

2. The F-450 Supertruck is deceptively luxurious

You don't usually think of luxury and pickup trucks in the same sentence. All the same, the F-450 Supertruck goes out of its way to grace the drive with a luxurious, high comfort experience simultaneously alongside the truck's high performance. With an exquisite interior and a ton of features, the F-450 is a lot more than it looks at first glance. Even if it seems like a splurge to spend virtually three times as much as the basic F-Series model, the luxury amenities make it stand as the sort of vehicle you could use equally as well for work or recreation. Considering that some families buy separate vehicles to suit either purchase (along with the added insurance rates that entail) it can be handy to have a vehicle that can be everything all at once.

3. It's got features and performance aplenty

The F-450 Super Duty has a 6.7L Powerstroke diesel engine at its heart, and with it, a monstrous 32,000 pounds of towing capacity. This helps ensure that the Super Duty will perform in all but the most demanding work situations. However, it's also got all of the comforts a city driver might hope for. Adaptive cruise control, LED headlamps, an elegant moonroof, and a 360 camera are just some of the things you can find aboard the F-450 Limited. Just about every entertainment and safety accessory is packed in as well.

For the F-450's distinctive trim, it's been given a satin grille and tailgate plaque. With every safety feature, entertainment amenity and driving accessory you can think of, it's clear this variant was created with the intent of ruling out all need for compromise. Provided you're able to manage the price, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to have everything you want at once.

4. It's already got its share of detractors

There's a potential class issue to be found in the wave of hate the F-450 Limited has received since it (and its price) were announced. There's nothing wrong with offering luxury options for customers in a higher income bracket of course, but some of the negative reception is put into perspective when you consider the practical connotations some associate between pickup trucks (the F-Series in particular!) and salt-of-the-earth working people. It's easy to feel dubious about a $100,000 truck with every entertainment amenity when you can pick up a variant for a third of the price of the F-450 Limited.

5. Surprisingly, there are far more expensive Ford trucks available

The F-450 Limited begins at a price of $87,000 USD. All extras included, it becomes $94,000; only when you factor in the taxes does it up past the $100,000 mark people have been citing whenever the truck's price tag comes up.

Funnily enough, there are F-Series trucks out there that could make the F-450 Limited look like a bargain bin sale by sheer contrast. The Hennessey Velociraptor, for instance, is a third-party performance enhancement of the SVT Raptor, sporting six wheels and over 600 horsepower. Only fifty of the Velociraptors are slated to be made. The price? $349,000 USD... and that's before taxes. Really puts things in perspective, doesn't it?
