Nice Truck, Cool Story

Ford trucks from the '70s are hot these days, and it's no wonder. These are, after all, some of the best-looking, toughest, and downright coolest trucks on the planet. And personally speaking, we're big suckers for nice examples, especially when they come with a cool story, as this beautiful 1977 Ford F-150 listed over at Hemmings carries with it.

Urban Dweller

Heck, the seller even has a name for his rig - Moose. The F-150 was originally purchased by his mother. Interestingly enough, because she was moving to an urban area. Now few of us would ever think that a truck and crowded city streets go well together, but momma had her reasons.

Traffic Stopper

Turns out, the seller's mom didn't want people messing with her in traffic. Thus, this big red F-150 was literally like the mechanical version of a moose - nobody dared go around it. And it served her well for that very purpose for many years.

Back to Life

After taking possession of the truck in 2002, the seller went to work restoring it back to its former glory. He started on a full frame-off restoration, which included (to his mom's ire) patching up the bullet hole in the hood.

Rough Life

With the body off, it was a good time to sandblast and undercoat the frame and various components underneath. Most of the body panels were so rough from city livin' that they had to be replaced, however. Except, of course, for the patched hood.

All New

They then got to work on the mechanicals, and pretty much everything important was replaced. That included the gas tank and fuel lines, radiator, hoses, alternator, exhaust, brakes, shocks, and most of the suspension.

Slight Upgrades

The 351 under the hood also received a full rebuild and some freshening up. The seller did take the time to replace the troublesome factory ignition setup with a Mallory aftermarket unit, as well as fit a four-barrel Edelbrock carb to the V8.

Minor Attention

On the inside, Moose was in pretty darn good shape. Pretty much the only thing that needed attention was the tatty and worn bench seat. So the crew recovered it in a high-quality vinyl that looks original yet should last longer.

City Slicker No More

This F-150 might be an older restoration, but it's sure hard to tell. Credit the quality of work, not to mention the durability of these '70s Ford trucks. We just hope that the new owner of this red beauty loves it as much as its original owner did. Even if we doubt it'll live the rest of its life in the city!
