Adding intensity to the T6

The Ford Ranger's rebirth to America has given compact truck fans a great product option. Known globally as the T6-Series, the latest Ford Ranger is wonderfully capable. But what if you desire even more? Well, Aftermarket Ford performance vehicle specialist, RTR, will oblige with its very tasteful and capable Ranger upgrades.

RTR wants to make your Ranger better

RTR's founder, Vaughn Gittin Jr, is a man who loves getting the most out of Ford's trucks and Mustangs. When the T6-Series Ranger was reintroduced to America, Gittin knew that it would become popular. He also suspected that certain customers would desire specific upgrades to the factory package. And he was right. As such, the RTR Ranger was born.

Bigger beat but no more speed

There might be a fancy set of polished exhaust tips, but the 2.3-liter turbocharged engine is left untouched. RTR chose not to focus on extracting more power and tarmac speed potential from the Ranger platform. Its focus with the Ranger upgrade has been on making it look better and ride with greater confidence, off-road. The RTR Ranger package might be subtle, but it certainly is not completely vanilla.

A more confident stance

Viewed side-on, Ford followers will immediately notice the RTR Ranger's increased ride height. At each of its four-wheel corners, RTR has installed Fox 2.0 performance coilover suspension. That means more obstacle-clearing ability and better traction off-road, not to mention superior ride quality too - when things get rough. With increased oil volume levels in the Fox 2.0 dampers, the RTR Ranger has better compression damping, which smooths-out terrain.

Fancy footwear and it can dance

This image accurately captures the theme of RTR's design objective with its Ranger upgrade: a compact sports truck that is deeply rewarding to drive on gravel. Rolling RTR 17-inch Tech 6 alloys, shod with 265/70R Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, this truck has a lot of flotation over punishing terrain. Those high-volume tires also soften ride quality when bouncing over rocky terrain and give owners the option of deflation, to increase the traction contact patch, in tricky dune fields and deep sand.

LEDs in the grille

Beyond the RTR Ranger's bigger tires and better suspension bits, it also has some striking exterior design elements. The factory Ranger grille has replaced with a custom RTR component, which features a different mesh pattern, solid mid-section and hook-shaped LEDs in the corners. There is also a custom RTR license plate holder. With its taller stance and bolder grille design, the RTR version a lot more presence than Ford's standard specification Ranger.

It won't easily bump through its travel

The RTR Ranger has 2-inches more body clearance than the standard truck, which means that those wheels have a lot more room to stroke through their suspension travel, in the arches. But to ensure there is no risk of tire rub, if you hit a technical off-road feature at speed, RTR's also added custom fenders to their Ranger. The side-exit exhausts are catback spec for freer gas flow. However, RTR is not claiming an increase in engine power, as a result. Some tasteful load box side-graphics completes the RTR Ranger upgrade.
