Ridge Cut Clear Across the Sky

1953 was an important year in the evolution of Ford Trucks. For starters, new naming conventions were rolled out for each of brand's three truck models. The former Ford F-1 debuted as the Ford F-100, a moniker that would stick until 1975 when the Ford F-150 debuted. This newly released resto-mod packs all of the ’53 F-100’s classic looks with an incredibly revamped interior, powerplant and, if you can believe it —an independent suspension.  

As Good a Day as Any to Fly

The truck's restoration preserves the classic, minimalist style of the original. The single bench seat, originally covered in the fabric during Ford's 1953 production run, is now covered in a supple cream-colored leather upholstery complete with custom armrests and matching door panels. All in all, it's a stunning look, particularly when you factor in the plush new carpeting and full Dakota-brand digital gauge package behind the restored tilt column steering wheel.

No Reservation

When the new F-100 rolled into dealerships in 1953, buyers had a choice between two different engines. Which choice a driver made was cleverly illustrated by the truck's center grille. The 1953 F-100's OHV 215-cubic-inch six-cylinder engine was designated by a chrome three-point star at the center of the truck's large grille. The truck's other available engine, a 239-cubic-inch flathead V-8, was signified by a chrome "V-8" emblem in the center grille. You won't find either on this restored '53 —it's powered by a .30 bore over Ford 460-cubic-inch big block, complete with hydraulic rockers and ARP-brand blots.

Breath in the Air

This 1953 Ford F-100 rebuild features a front grille that is no less impressive, however. The restorers chose to preserve the truck's shiny chrome front bumper but carried the truck's new "Crystal Claret" paint scheme through the front bumper for smooth color synchronicity. The truck's red "Crystal Claret" paint scheme is actually borrowed from a contemporary color that's been available on many recent Cadillac builds. The hue plays beautifully off the truck's exterior chrome and cream-yellow leather interior.

Hit the Fray

The truck's short bed has been reborn to mint condition and certainly isn't one you'll want to load up with clean fill anytime soon. The bed has been upgraded with real wood flooring —premium "Bird's Eye" maple to be precise. Thanks to chrome inlays, it's an incredible look, particularly when played off the truck's glossy red paint job.

We're in Business

With less than 125 miles on this restomod, its full life is well ahead of it. Modern wide tires and a custom-fitted forward-tilting hood add to the truck’s speed demon panache, as do the cleverly placed side-exhaust pipes. This Ford F-100 restomod is an eye-catching balance of a modern pickup power while staying true to Ford’s classic “Hot Rod” look.
