Rare Sight

Ford has produced a number of cool, limited-production, and just downright interesting special edition trucks over the years. One of the most interesting, at least to us, was the Bicentennial Option Group available for a period of time in the 1976 model year. Today, you rarely see these pickups anymore, which is why our interest was peaked when we came across this fine example over at Hemmings.

Variety of Options

Of course, there wasn't much to this package designed to celebrate the 200th anniversary of American independence. You got to choose from two base colors, for starters - Wimbledon White or Bahama Blue, on any model from the F-100 to the F-350, on a wide variety of body styles. You were also able to specify two-tone paint if so desired, which meant the roof came in the opposite of whatever color you ordered as the main hue.

Flying Eagle

From there, you got a special graphics package featuring a white accent panel with a gold stripe and "Flying Eagle" design, along with red and blue stripes highlighting the borders. This particular Bahama Blue, non-two-tone F-250 retains its original paint and graphics, with your typical patina for a pickup that's been used over the years.

Cool Feature

The interior of this cool pickup remains in pretty solid condition as well, save for some cracks in the vinyl. There you'll also find some obvious Bicentennial Edition features, including the very cool bench seat pattern that was unique to these pickups.

Work Truck

There's also a Bicentennial badge on the glovebox door to remind you and your passenger that you're driving something special. What you won't find in the cab is an abundance of options. This F-250 was obviously intended to use as a work truck, thus you won't find silly luxury options such as power anything or even air conditioning.

Runs Like a Top

Pop the hood, and you'll find the F-250's original 390 V8, which is said to only have traveled 73,000 miles. It, along with the C6 automatic transmission, is said to operate flawlessly thanks to a lifetime of proper maintenance. The only non-original part hereof note is the aluminum radiator, which replaced the original, leaking unit.

Worth Celebrating

Despite spending 20+ years on a farm, this special '76 F-250 remains in pretty remarkable condition with no penetrating rust or major damage. But that's just a testament to the toughness of these iconic Ford trucks, which are also a perfect example of what makes this country so great. Not to mention something worth celebrating.
