Rare Opportunity

Ford fans who have been around a while will undoubtedly recognize this wild looking F-150. Otherwise known as the "Boss Sport," the pickup was built by Jack Roush and McLaren Performance Technologies to serve as the official pace vehicle for the PPG IndyCar World Series from 1991-1994. The truck was obviously never really intended to land in private hands, but now it's actually up for sale over at Streetside Classics.

No Expense Spared

Today, the pace truck has just 5,145 miles on the clock and is selling for a fraction of the reported original build cost of a whopping $250,000. The truck did change a bit over its time in the spotlight. Originally painted in a white/purple/red color scheme its first two years on the circuit, the F-150 was then changed to its current purple/green/yellow livery for the remainder of its time in service.

Worked Over

As you might expect from a truck build associated with Roush, this F-150 is no slouch under the hood. It's powered by a worked-over 5.0-liter V8 packing a host of mods including Trick Flow heads and a custom intake. Backed up by a similarly reworked 4-speed automatic transmission, the engine produces a healthy 500 horsepower.

Gut Job

Roush also stripped out the original interior and replaced it with leather bucket seats and door panels, a custom center console, and switches that control the batteries, lights, horns, fuel tanks and even the brake coolant. Purple and blue accents were added to break up the sea of black and give the insides a true custom appearance.

Unique Touches

The exterior features a host of custom touches that you won't find on any other F-150 of any generation. That includes specially sculpted bumpers, light covers, side panels, a unique front grille, vented hood, and a tonneau cover that utilizes cutouts to make room for bed-mounted, rear-facing seats.

Prominent Feature

Those rear passengers are protected by a giant arch that serves as a roll bar, which is one of the more prominent styling features on this pickup. The build was wrapped up with a set of AZE wheels wrapped in rather large 315/35 rubber, all of which cover water-cooled power disc brakes at all four corners.

One of a Kind

Racing fans from this era will undoubtedly remember this wild F-150, which truly stands out as one of the more unique pace vehicles ever built for any racing series. And we imagine that at least one of them would be interested in adding it to their collection. After all, this is a true one-of-one that will probably never be replicated.
