Wanna Fly You Away With Me

The sixth generation of Ford F-Series pickups, produced from 1973 to 1979, hold a special place in the hearts of Ford truck fans nationwide. That's because this was the model that in 1977 became the best-selling pickup in the country –a title it has still yet to relinquish. Whether it's its classic looks or rough and tumble performance capability that drivers like, vintage Ford F-Series trucks like this one have helped to make the vehicle a true icon of the American road.

Into the Mystic

At first glance, this '79 Ford F-150 restoration looks like it was made with a minimalist look during its overhaul. In fact, the original 1979 F-150s had a very subdued exterior look. Some available colors featured an embedded racing stripe on a solid color form. F-100 Ranger XLT models, meanwhile, featured combination two-toned paint schemes in a variety of colors. The racing stripe has been removed from this particular model during this restoration, but the vintage metallic logo remains.

Reach the Gates

The revamped interior of this truck features freshly reupholstered black vinyl seats and the original AM Stereo. The truck originally came with a CB Radio, although it's since been removed. Other features include a tilt steering wheel, nylon carpeting, and access to performance control features such as power steering and cruise control.

Hope of Discovery

The 1979 Ford F-150 came with five engine options ranging from 116 to 220-horsepower capability. This truck features the mid-range option: a 5.8 liter / 351 cid V-8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission with a creeper gear. This truck's basic, pre-electronic powertrain is easy to repair and modify —meaning true engineering aces could make go considerably faster.

This truck has also been modified with a spray down bed-liner in an orange that matches it's new paint scheme. Other exterior changes that differentiate this truck from the 1978 model included new rectangular-style headlights and new grille options available in either black or chrome. Flareside bed styles were made available in 1979 F-100, F-150, and F-250 models with the F-100 like this one receiving the “shorty” box that's only six-and-a-half feet long.

We'll Find Out What's There

Ford F-150s continued dominance of the American pickup truck market means that the market of restored antique variants of the brand will only continue to climb in demand. While 1979 Ford F-150's were subject to numerous recalls, namely for issues relating to steering, suspension, and transmission, models that have undergone expert restorations like this one iron out those kinks, and leave buyers with a truck whose adventures have only yet to begin.
