Special Find

When the Bronco DR was revealed a couple of years ago, it quite literally came as a shock to most - after all, Ford had been quite adamant to that point that it wasn't planning on selling a Bronco with a V8 engine of any kind. Then, along came this Coyote-powered beast, but there was just one catch - Ford only built 50 of them, at a cost of $295k each, minus options. That means the DR will be rather hard to find and purchase, making this cool example that recently crossed the block at Bring a Trailer something special, indeed.

Cool Color

The first thing most will notice about this particular Bronco DR is it paint - the legendary Ford hue called Mystichrome - which appeared on select Mustang models in past years. The color-shifting paint looks right at home on the wild bodywork of the DR, which is shipped to dealers and customers in white only, after which they can do as they please with the exterior.

Wild Bodywork

The DR utilizes many factory Bronco components - such as a fortified version of its frame - but on the outside, it's fitted with goodies like resin transfer molded fiberglass body panels, tubular steel bumpers, rooftop air scoops, and various other unique features. As is the case with this example, the optional Baja package adds even more in the form of Rigid rock lights, a pair of LED light bars, and a siren.

Serious Suspension

Then there's the suspension, which is also quite bespoke. Peek underneath, and one will find Multimatic aluminum lower control arms, remote-reservoir adjustable spool valve dampers, Radflo hydraulic bump stops, and Alcon brakes at all four corners. Suspension travel comes in at a rather impressive 15.8 inches in the front and 17.4 inches in the back, which only aids in its off-road prowess.

Business Class

The same goes for the business-focused cabin, which is stuffed with racing stuff like Recaro Pro Racer ORV-XL seats with Sparco safety harnesses, a MoTeC data acquisition system, a Ford Performance Sparco steering wheel, a Kenwood two-way radio, a PCI intercom system, and a MoTeC C187 display - but no window glass, just safety nets in this case.

V8 Power

Under the hood, one won't find some sort of turbocharged four- or six-cylinder engine, but rather, Ford's venerable 5.0-liter Coyote V8 in naturally aspirated guise. It sends power to all four wheels via a 10R80 ten-speed automatic transmission. The DR is also equipped with an electronically shifted dual-range transfer case, plus locking differentials at both ends with 4.70 gears.

Rare Opportunity

A truly special and rare machine, it's unclear just how much interest this unique example will conjure up at auction, nor how much it'll ultimately sell for. Regardless, for anyone who covets one of these pricey machines, we doubt the opportunity to buy one will come up too terribly often.
