Off-Roading Monster

The pre-runner monster you see in the photos above may not look like a mid-2000s Ford Ranger, but that's exactly what it used to be before the heavy modification work was done. The thorough build was featured on the Autotopia LA YouTube Channel. The channel, produced and presented by Shawn Davis, has been highlighting noteworthy cars from the Los Angeles area. And this off-road racer is one of the coolest they've featured.

Humble Beginnings

It's hard to believe this beast started life as a humble Ranger. Mostly because the only remaining hints of its blue-collar past are the few elements of the cabin that are still intact. Otherwise, it has been fitted with a full body kit, with a front fascia that would have you believe this was a Raptor.

How it All Started

As Rob from RJ Fab explains, the truck's origin story is an interesting one. The Ranger was his brother-in-law's work truck and he was planning on selling it for $1,200. While the two were having dinner one night, he said to Rob "I heard you want to build a Ranger," and offered it to him as a donor car for the build.  “drive it home and you can have it,” Rob's brother-in-law told him.

Multi-Year Project

The build process took over four years to complete. But the result is perhaps the most amazing transformation we've seen in quite a while. Rob equipped the pre-runner with a big block Chevy motor he had lying around his shop. Perhaps not the best choice for Ford purists, but you can't argue with the results. The truck was recorded producing 680 horsepower on the dyno.

$350,000 Build

To make sure the truck could handle the type of abuse that Rob planned on giving it, a ton of work had to be done to the suspension, drivetrain, and chassis. Heavy-duty Fox shocks allow for 20 inches of travel in the front and 28 inches at the rear. The interior has been built with a mix of luxury and off-roading vibes, which is very appropriate for the $350,000 do-it-all truck.
