Interesting Insight

After initially debuting in a handful of global markets, the all-new, next-generation Ford Ranger finally debuted for the U.S. back in May, alongside the Ranger Raptor - which will be heading to the states for the very first time. A total redesign for a mid-size pickup that's been around for a very long time now, the 2024 Ford Ranger has since attracted its fair share of interest among consumers. Now, The Blue Oval has released a list of the most popular features, trim levels, and various other specs among those that have placed an order thus far, and it's a nice bit of insight in that regard.

Top Configuration 1: Oxford White Ranger XL

First up, we have the top three configurations for the 2024 Ford Ranger, and we aren't just talking about cab choice or trim - but rather, the complete package, along with exterior color. Among those three is the XL STX four-wheel drive model - finished in Oxford White, specifically. The XL is obviously the base trim for the new Ranger, while the STX Package is actually included as standard equipment for the 2024 model year. It includes niceties like 17-inch silver-painted wheels, LED headlights, fog lamps, and a few other nice features.

Top Configuration 2: Cactus Gray XLT

Next up on this list is the XLT Sport four-wheel-drive model with the 301A Equipment Group and available tow package, coupled with Cactus Gray paint. The Sport Package is included as standard, and consists of things like 17-inch gray-painted aluminum wheels, a black mesh grille with a gray-painted surround and bars, gray-painted front bumper and fascia, gray wheel lip moldings, and a Sport box decal.

Top Configuration 3: Shadow Black Lariat

Finally, we have the Lariat Sport with four-wheel-drive and the tow package, combined with the exterior color Shadow Black. Much like the XLT Sport, the Lariat Sport is standard and gets similar visual upgrades including 18-inch machined aluminum wheels with Magnetic pockets, a black mesh grille with a gray-painted surround and bars, a gray-painted front bumper and fascia, gray wheel lip moldings, and a Sport box decal.

Ranger Raptor's Most Popular Feature

Among Ranger Raptor customers, the most popular options are the high-performance off-roader's 17-inch gray-painted beadlock wheels, which retail for $1,495, and exterior graphics package, which adds another $750 to the cost, along with some visually interest to the exterior. The top color choices for the Ranger Raptor thus far are Shelter Green Metallic and Shadow Black.

Ranger Owners Want 4WD

Among all of the options available for the new Ranger, however, there is one that the vast majority of customers are opting for - four-wheel-drive. A grand total of 80 percent of order holders have checked this box thus far, which isn't a huge surprise given the popularity it has enjoyed for years now.

Ranger Owners Want to Tow

From there, a grand total of 70 percent of 2024 Ford Ranger order holders are opting to purchase a hitch for their pickups - something most truck owners would want anyway - while around 50 percent are paying extra for Pro Trailer Backup Assist and the Trailer Brake Controller features.

20% of Orders Include the FX4 Off-Road Package

Perhaps most interestingly, only 20 percent of order holders opted to go with the FX4 Off-Road Package on their pickups. Historically, this package has provided quite a bit of value, and that's the case here, too. For the price of $1,295, the FX4 package adds things like an electronic locking rear differential, meatier tires, a steel bash plate, off-road tuned shocks, and a series of skid plates, to boot.
