Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

With the Ford Ranger once again rolling off production lines in late 2020, there’s no better time to appreciate the truck’s venerated history. This Wimbledon White 1978 Ford F-150 Ranger 4x4 is a classic throwback to a time when pickups were large, comfortable, and powerful. In fact, the 1978 line of Ford F-150 Rangers were designed with a particular focus on style, as this model fully illustrates.

Keep Them Doggies Rollin'

This 1978 boasts the lineup’s full trim package available at the time: wide bumpers, broader headlamps, and numerous interior upgrades. Even though it's a base model, this ’78 F-150’s still featured round headlights. You’ll also notice other changes that separate this model from 1977 F-150’s: the truck’s signals are integrated under its headlights, separated by a single-piece egg-crate steel grille.

Head 'Em Up, Move 'Em On

The truck is powered by the same hearty 400 cubic-inch V8 engine it had the day it rolled off the lot, but it’s been fully restored with several new components and a few upgrades. These include a Holley four-barrel carburetor, two-speed transfer case and a new Rough Country brand suspension that's been slightly lifted.

Move 'Em On, Head 'Em Up

The truck still has its original 10-hole forged 15-inch aluminum wheels —another upgrade option for the model year. It’s a little bit more prepared for off-road work than it would have been with its stock wheels. However, thanks to the addition of beefy Mudstar brand radials.

Soon We'll Be livin' High An' Wide

The interior is augmented with a distinct royal blue dash and door panels that pop in combination with the fabric-covered bench seat. A new AM/FM/CD stereo with USB input replaces the old transistor and CB unit. And while air conditioning has also been added, the truck provides plenty of breezes thanks to its sliding rear glass and large side window vents.

My True Love Will Be Waitin'

Another terrific feature added is a tow hitch which allows you to bring along your boat, camper, or motorcycle trailer with ease. While today’s truck designs tend to look more and more like the sedans they share the road with, this classic white horse boasts all the power and style that made America fall in love with pickups in the first place.
