Icon's Latest 1970 F-100 Is a Crazy Retro Cool Restomod
Icon continues to top itself with better and better builds, culminating with this beautiful 1970 Ford F-100.
Topping Themselves
Jonathan Ward and his Icon brand might have started out as a classic Toyota Land Cruiser restoration house, but they've since evolved into a builder of some of the finest restomod trucks on the planet. And their latest creation, this insanely beautiful 1970 Ford F-100, might just be their greatest one yet.

Careful Changes
The concept behind Icon is to re-engineer and add obsessive amounts of detail to old vehicles, while also upgrading all the mechanicals to modern standards. What doesn't change, however, is the vehicle's inherent classic charm. Icon might change a few things on the outside, but for the most part, they leave what works alone.

Modern Underpinnings
The original frame of this F-100 was ditched, however, in favor of a new Art Morrison ladder frame with Eibach coil springs at all four corners. The differentials consist of a beefy Dana 44 up front and equally beefy Dana 60 out back, with a four-link setup and Fox shocks, along with giant Brembo brakes to slow this big rig down in a hurry.

High Detail
The interior might look pretty stock at first glance, but in reality, it has been thoroughly gone over. For example, Icon polishes every knob and lever to perfection, adds some seriously high-quality stitching, and masterfully restored gauges to kick things up a notch.

Retro Modern
A Vintage Air A/C unit helps cool things down, while close-cropped carpeting feels more like something you'd find in a luxury car than an old pickup. And it looks every bit as retro as the 18-inch alloy wheels outside that are designed to mimic the look of an old school set of steelies.

Fattened Up
There's nothing retro about what powers this F-100, however. It's second-gen 5.0-liter Coyote V8 pumps out 426 horsepower but has been specially tuned by Icon to fatten up the torque curve for extra low-end grunt. It's backed up by a Ford AOD four-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to an Advanced Adaptors Atlas II two-speed transfer case and either two- or four wheels.

Price of Perfection
There's something undeniably appealing about a classic truck that drives like a brand new one, especially when it's contained in a beautifully detailed package like Icon's F-100. The only problem, of course, is how much it costs, and that's a whopping $400,000. But can you really put a price on perfection?
